JOB SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Technician supports the pharmacological care of patients by preparing medications under the direction of the pharmacist(s). Compiles and records accurate patient data and maintains organization within the pharmacy in order to safely and efficiently deliver pharmacy services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Receives written or electronic prescriptions, dispensing order or refill requests and verifies that information is complete and accurate.
* Request and monitor the receipt of supplemental documentation required for DMEPOS items to be covered by Medicare.
* Maintains proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
* Answers telephones, responding to questions or requests.
* Fills bottles with prescribed medications and type and affixes labels.
* Process prescriptions thru pharmacy operating system to bill Medicare and third party payers. Monitor computer system edits to ensure that all information provided supports compliance with Medicare and third party payer policies.
* Prepares DMEPOS items for pickup or delivery.
* Assists customers by answering simple questions, locating items, or referring them to the pharmacist for medication information or training on the use of DMEPOS items.
* Prices and files prescriptions that have been filled.
* Cleans and helps maintain, equipment and work areas, and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods.
* Establishes and maintains patient profiles, including lists of medications taken by individual patients.
* Orders, labels, and counts stock of medications, chemicals, and supplies, and enter inventory data into computer.
* Receives and stores incoming supplies, verifies quantities against invoices, and informs supervisors of stock needs and shortages.
* Determines insurance status and informs patient of payment options.
* Prepare ABN when appropriate.
* Receives and processes proper payment from customers for purchases.
* Assist in the dispensing process as well as compounding and perform all functions allowed to be performed by pharmacy technicians under the supervision of a pharmacist.
* A certified pharmacy technician while working in the prescription department shall wear a name tag bearing in a clearly legible font, at a minimum, the individuals first name and title Certified Pharmacy Technician and must maintain national certification; if national certification has lapsed or not met the requirements, they shall not practice as a registered certified pharmacy technician.
* Pharmacy technician must be in good standing as a pharmacy technician with no previous engagements which affect the ability of the pharmacy technician to practice.
* A person registered as a Vermont Certified Pharmacy technician must notify the Board within 10 days of terminating employment.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent required
EXPERIENCE
Two years experience in a health care setting preferred
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE
State of Vermont Licensed Pharmacy Technician
National Certification prior to July 1, 2017
