Assists registered pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing and distribution of sterile and non-sterile medication, maintains records and inventory, following procedural work routines, to ensure medications are ready and available for patient administration.
* PHARMACEUTICAL PREPARATION: Prepares sterile drug products (IV admixtures, chemotherapy and TPN) and non-sterile drug products for inpatients and outpatients under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist and following established procedures, in order to ready the drug product for administration to the patient.
* DOCUMENTATION: Maintains accurate records of sterile and non-sterile products prepared, credits, charges, patient specific records, and other documentation as required either manually or through the computer to comply with regulatory requirements and ensure pharmacy information is readily available.
* INVENTORY MANAGEMENT: May maintain the inventory of controlled drugs by ordering, packaging, counting and issuing controlled drugs in order to meet the regulatory mandates and ensure availability of needed drugs. Monitors storage conditions for drugs and other pharmacy items through regular nursing unit inspections to ensure items are stored appropriately. Maintain inventories by ordering, stocking and/or rotating drug and supplies, discarding expired drugs to ensure adequate supplies at all times in accordance with established department procedures.

Education and/or Experience Required:
* Required: High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or a higher level of education that would require the completion of high school.
Education and/or Experience Preferred:
* Preferred: Associate's Degree in Pharmacy Technician program is preferred.
* Preferred: At least one year of hospital pharmacy experience is preferred.
License and/or Certification Required:
* Required: A valid current CT Pharmacy registration with Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (updated
annually) OR A valid current pharmacy intern registration with the CT Dept. of Consumer Protection
* Preferred: Pharmacy Technician certification (National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board -NPTCB)
