Job Description:
Job Summary:•Performs order entry tasks and related activities in support of the medication dispensing process.•Calculates and/or verifies the correct dosage based on the prescription.•Contacts physicians on any narcotic prescriptions to receive a hard copy within the required time frame per state statutes.•Assists in reviewing the narcotic Rx's are back in a timely manner.•Enters new and refill orders in a timely and accurate manner.•Processes orders based on the priority assigned.•Prepares backup pharmacy orders.•Complies with a process that addresses all state and federal guidelines regarding medication labeling.•Provides dispensing pharmacists with information regarding allergies and drug interactions, therapeutic duplications, and other items that the computer flags.•Courteously assists all internal and external customers.•Consults with dispensing pharmacists regarding prescription order clarification, non-stock items, order entry problems, or concerns.•Completes all data fields according to pharmacy procedures including use of approved abbreviations.•Triages customer service requests by department, urgency, and information/response required.•Collects, prioritizes, and sorts incoming faxes to the appropriate department/area.•Creates and maintains accurate customer records.•Coordinates/manages STAT order process (check e-kit stock list and fax back to customer).•Understands Medicare Policy and Co-Pay requirements/guidelines.•Follows all applicable government regulations including HIPAA.•Assists with pharmacy workflow as needed.•Takes important steps to ensure all medication needs and regulatory compliance standards are met for our patients, and demonstrates ethical conduct and maintains patient confidentiality at all times.•Maintains full compliance with all Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations.•Maintains the highest professional and ethical standards.Key Responsibilities:•Order entry tasks and related activities.•Dosage calculation and verification.•Physician contact for narcotic prescriptions.•Timely entry of new and refill orders.•Order processing based on priority.•Backup pharmacy order preparation.•Compliance with medication labeling guidelines.•Providing information on allergies, drug interactions, and therapeutic duplications.•Customer assistance.•Prescription order clarification with dispensing pharmacists.•Data field completion according to procedures.•Customer service request triage.•Fax collection, prioritization, and sorting.•Customer record maintenance.• STAT order process coordination.•Understanding of Medicare Policy and Co-Pay requirements.•Compliance with government regulations including HIPAA.•Assistance with pharmacy workflow.•Ensuring medication needs and regulatory compliance.•Maintaining patient confidentiality.•Compliance with laws and regulations.•Upholding professional and ethical standards.Required Qualifications:•Verifiable High School Diploma or GED. •Prior experience in the long-term care industry. •National certification.•State registration•Ability to concentrate on tasks without distraction.•Effective verbal and written communication skills.•Active listening skills.•Mathematical problem-solving ability.•Problem recognition and judgment skills.•Decision-making skills in complex situations.•Customer service orientation.•Knowledge of filling procedures.•Knowledge of drug packaging procedures.•Knowledge of dispensing database software.•Fluency in English.•Good oral communication skills.•Strong communication with dispensing pharmacists.•Effective communication with employees, facility staff, prescribers, and others.•Ability to write routine correspondence and reports.•Proficiency with fax machines, computer software, copiers, and word-processing.•Strong attention to detail.Education:Verifiable High School Diploma or GED.
