POSITION PURPOSE: Under the direction of a staff pharmacist, responsible for unit dose, out-patient, intravenous admixture and floor stock areas. Following standard procedures, assists in the dispensing of medications and maintaining appropriate patient records and charges.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Accurately fills medication orders, including Unit Dose, IV, floor stock and new orders in an organized, efficient and timely manner
- Ensures proper delivery, exchange and storage of medications throughout the hospital.
- Completes all departmental process control records, data collection and entry for quality management.
- Assists with the monitoring of stock levels and ordering of all medications and supplies and informs necessary personnel of unusual usage or potential shortages.
- Assists in operation of outpatient prescription processing.
- Assists in the billing functions with entry of narcotic charges, quick charges, fill and update lists, credits, etc. including floor stock, charges, etc. Assists in record keeping, filing and organization of billing records and source documents. Inputs charges within the time limits of the computer system.
- Functions as a liaison between patient care provider staff, pharmacy staff and patient to insure accurate complete medication histories.
- Performs audits and monitors on admissions to maintain a complete medication reconciliation process.
- Coordinates with patient, nurse and/or physician as required to document a complete accurate medication information for home medications, prescriptions and medications in history.
- Coordinates with patient, nurse and/or physician as required to document a complete accurate medication information for home medications, prescriptions and medications in history on discharge. Conduct initial data entry for new medication orders to be verified by a pharmacist prior to patient discharge.
SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & REQUIREMENTS:- Current Illinois Registered Pharmacy Technician Licensure required within 60 days of hire or as stated in the Illinois Pharmacy Practice Act, Section 1330.200.
- If license pending, a copy of your submitted application to the IDPFR must be provided.
- Certification as a Pharmacy Technician preferred upon hire; required within one year of hire.
- Minimum of one year experience working in an acute care setting, hospital or retail pharmacy preferred.
