Under general supervision, following established policies, procedures and professional guidelines, the Phlebotomist 1 is responsible for thecollection and delivery of specimens. Assists with clerical task such as verifying an order, collating collection batches, clearing an un-received specimenlog, cleaning and stocking trays and carts, and customer service when necessary. Responsible for performing job duties inaccordance with the mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital.WORKING CONDITIONS:Work is primarily performed in patient settings. Extensive interaction with patients, staff, physicians, family members and visitors. Exposedto patient care and medical laboratory testing environment (i.e., toxins, chemicals, fumes, noxious odors, specimens and infectious diseases).The job requires considerable walking and standing; lifting and carrying of supplies and equipment; and repetitive data entry.This position has been evaluated as a Level 1 in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) definition ofoccupational exposure to blood borne pathogens.Level I Positions in this category require the performance of tasks that involve exposure to blood and potentially infectious body fluids.High School Diploma or G.E.D. Graduation from an approved Phlebotomy Training Program is preferred. Previous experience as aPhlebotomist is preferred OR Completion of Course Work from accredited program with minimum of one month internship. Basic Computer competency is required.
