Job SummaryThe Phlebotomist is responsible for preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performing screening standards, ensuring the efficient and accurate collection of blood samples. The Phlebotomist will create a calm and confident environment for patients while delivering quality care.Key Responsibilities
  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and manage decontamination and maintenance records.
  • Greet patients courteously, creating a welcoming environment.
  • Collect and store specimens according to protocols, explaining procedures in a clear and respectful manner.
  • Use straight and butterfly needles, demonstrating skill and professionalism.
  • Confirm all test requisitions or labels for accuracy against orders.
  • Prepare specimens for transport, ensuring samples are stored at the appropriate temperature.
  • Maintain proficiency in proper collection and processing methods, adhering to OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Answer patient inquiries and provide lab results, as appropriate.
  • Attend annual department training sessions and complete additional assigned duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required).
  • Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong patient interaction skills in both in-person and phone interactions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.
