Position OverviewThe Phlebotomist plays a vital role in patient care, ensuring accurate specimen preparation for laboratory testing while creating an atmosphere of trust and comfort. This position requires precision, professionalism, and a compassionate approach to patient interactions.Key Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label and centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, decontaminate equipment, and update patient information as required.
- Greet patients courteously and provide a calm environment to alleviate anxiety before, during, and after specimen collection.
- Collect specimens according to established procedures, explaining venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly (e.g., urine or fecal samples).
- Demonstrate proficiency with blood draw techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
- Carefully follow physicians' orders for specimen collection and processing.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens per test requirements.
- Verify test requisitions or computer labels to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package and store specimens for transport, ensuring correct temperature and labeling to maintain integrity.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, maintaining health and safety standards.
- Attend annual training sessions and respond to patient inquiries, including reading laboratory results.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in phlebotomy, with hands-on skills in specimen collection and processing.
