Job Summary: The Phlebotomist provides essential expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation, ensuring high-quality care by obtaining accurate samples with minimal discomfort. This role is key to delivering excellent patient service and maintaining sample integrity for reliable testing.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform blood draws and other specimen collections, including urine and fecal samples, in accordance with standard protocols.
- Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures to patients in a clear, courteous manner.
- Use straight and butterfly needles as appropriate to patient needs.
- Ensure all specimen requisitions match tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
- Confirm accuracy of test requisitions or computer labels against physician orders.
- Package specimens for transport, following proper storage and temperature requirements to maintain integrity.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations; wear appropriate PPE.
- Participate in annual training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of lab procedures.
- Address inquiries, relay lab results, and perform other assigned duties.
Required Qualifications:- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in venipuncture, specimen handling, and patient interaction in a clinical setting.
- Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations for lab safety and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications:- Proficiency in specimen handling, labeling, and patient care in a high-volume environment.
