Job Description:
We are currently looking for a Full Time Phlebotomist/Laboratory Aide I to join our Laboratory Phlebotomy Unit team located at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center.Summary:Provides phlebotomy services, non-technical and semi-technical services in the clinical laboratory.Responsibilities:* Obtains adequate and proper specimens from patients for laboratory testing* Instructs patients on proper test collection and preparation* Follows appropriate guidelines based on the age and condition of the patient in collecting specimens for testing* Treats all patients and family with care and respect and maintain a cooperative attitude with fellow employees to facilitate quality patient care* Orders and accession laboratory tests through the laboratory information system and assist other personnel with laboratory test orders* Complies with all safety and infection control policies and procedures* Assists the Laboratory Clerk/Medical Technologist with non-technical tasks and clerical duties* Manages and orders office inventory, equipment, uniforms and other operational supplies* Provides first class customer service - courteous and helpful to all internal and external customer types- Greets and engages with a smile- Determines and meets needs- Seeks positive experience and outcomes- Answers questions in a courteous and professional manner- Partners with internal and external services as needed to ensure appropriate referral is made* Completes all training and development requirements and participates in continuing education opportunities* Works in a collaborative and supportive manner to support the productivity and safety of the work area, team members and customers of all types- Shares responsibilities for maintaining adequate supplies and equipment- Maintains general upkeep of work area and maintains a safe environment- Observes and addresses potential environmental hazards and risks- Maintains and promotes professionalism- Punctual and consistent in meeting start time, work schedule, attendance and other assigned work time metrics- Adheres to Chickasaw Nation dress code standards- May provide break coverage for others as assigned- May augment staff in other areas as needed based on staffing and needs ratio in regularly assigned unit* Maintain knowledge of and follow all laws, rules, regulations, policies and SOPs for assigned area, e.g. MICS, TICS, hospital standards, health codes, food sanitation, accounting principles, etc.* All other duties as assignedCompetencies:Essential:* Follow instructions, written or oral * Ensures compliance* Adhere to all scheduling and attendance requirements* Maintains strict confidentiality in all matters* Must be detail-oriented* Ability to work independently* Honesty, truthfulness, reliability, accountability* Read, understand and apply regulations and policies* Understand Native American culture and tribal programs* Possess basic knowledge of medical terminology* Ability to multitask* Builds effective working relationships* Communicates verbally with team, departments, guests and management* Writes effective communications with team, departments, guests and management* Keeps written records* Maintains clear and complete employee health recordsSkills:Experience:Essential:* No prior experience required.Education:Essential:* High School, GED or EquivalentCredentials:Essential:* Pass general background check* Standard Driver's License* Phlebotomy Technician CertificationWorking Conditions:Essential:* Customer service* Emergency* Fast-paced* Hospital or Clinic* Potential exposure to biohazards* Potential exposure to contagious diseases* Potentially dangerous situations* Hostile, agitated or under-influenced persons* Face shield* Gloves* Frequently bend, kneel, stoop, push, reach* Use computer up to 50% of shift* Hand-eye coord, reach and grasp* Sometimes lift and or carry up to 25 lbs* Sometimes lift patients* Sometimes assist with lifting patients* Sitting up to 50% of shift* Standing up to 75% of shift* Walk up to 50% of shift* Day shift* May work evening shift* May work holidays* May work night shift* May work rotating shifts* May work weekend shift
