ROLE: PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER

MISSION: Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls Charter School, The Shirley Rodriguez-Remeneski School (BGLIG, pronounced Big League) will provide an exceptional education to young girls through dual language instruction in a technology-rich environment while building on cultural heritage to foster leadership characteristics and strong values, promote self-confidence and create global leaders. Position Overview
At Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls Charter School, Classroom Teachers understand and promote the schools mission, vision, objectives, and policies both within and outside the immediate school community. The Classroom Teacher is responsible for providing an instructional program that supports the individual needs of all children in a dual language setting, in accordance with the schools mission and values established by its charter.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):
- Motivates scholars during exercises to help them develop athletic skills and enjoy exercising.
- Conduct health assessments to determine the overall health status of all youth (e.g., height, weight, PACER endurance test), etc.
- Teach the rules behind playing several different sports, as well as proper techniques for running, stretching & other exercise activities.
- Modify existing instructional plans as necessary to accommodate individual scholars' special needs.
- Administer assessments, collect, and analyze data gathered on each scholar.
- Build relationships with students families through regular communication regarding progress and provide ways in which families can be supportive of their scholars health & motivation.
- Participate in school-wide scholar assessments in order to diagnose students needs.
- Attend professional development training.
- Provides coverage for classroom teachers, lunch/recess, and or dismissals as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- NYS Teacher Certification in Health & Wellness and/or Physical Education or reciprocity from another state in the equivalent area.
- Bachelors degree in Health Education or related field required.
- Minimum of 2 years of Teaching work experience in working with elementary and middle school-aged students is required.
- Knowledge of best practices and current trends in Health & Wellness and/or Physical Education, school wellness policy, and/or public health required.
- Expert knowledge of New York State & National Health Education Standards & National Sexuality Education Standards required.
- Experience conducting health assessments, facilitating group and individual counseling, and implementing health education workshops required.
- Comfortable working in various urban settings and with diverse populations required.
- Team-oriented with strong organizational and collaborative skills required.
- Adapts well to changes in assignments and priorities with the ability to respond effectively to new information, changing conditions, and unexpected obstacles required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Google Suite & using technology & web-based platforms to teach Health & Wellness and/or Physical Education required.
