The Physical Therapist restores patient's function, alleviates pain, and prevents disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed physical therapy.Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conducts thorough, skilled physical therapy evaluations to identify patients' physical and functional impairments and establishes individualized plans of care in conjunction with patients and/or family members/caregivers
  • Provides appropriate and skilled physical therapy interventions such as manual techniques, therapeutic exercises, gait training, functional and sport-specific exercises, patient/family/caregiver education, and therapeutic modalities allowing patients to achieve prior levels of function and to achieve goals of established plans of care
  • Provides supervision and direction of interventions provided by physical therapy assistants
  • Assesses outcome of physical therapy interventions, patient progress, and medical necessity for continued care by providing subjective and objective data, modifying the plan of care accordingly based on clinical findings
  • Collaborates with colleagues in occupational therapy as well as with referring physicians, advanced practice clinicians, and medical staff to provide the safest and most effective interventions for patients
  • Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing appropriate individualized home exercise programs; instructs patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommends assistive devices or adaptive equipment; refers patients to appropriate provider if necessary
  • Documents all patients care in electric health record utilizing appropriate templates, billing and coding
  • Maintains patient privacy and HIPPA compliance by keeping personal health information confidential
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with the organization's policies and procedures, and adhering to infection control protocols
  • Ensures safe operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and when necessary, requesting repairs
  • Maintains professional licensure and technical knowledge by completing required continuing education courses; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional organizations or associations
  • Contributes to development of their physical therapy team by sharing information, by conducting in-services, or by demonstrating newly learned techniques to colleagues
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by understanding and adhering to current legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; informing management on needed actions
  • Contributes to team effort by working closely with colleagues both within and outside of the occupational and physical therapy department to provide excellent patient care and to achieve the core values of our organization

  • Graduation from accredited Physical Therapy program
  • Valid physical therapy license in State of New York in good standing
  • Current CPR certification or ability to obtain
New York Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $70,200 to $137,800 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
