PT Job Summary
The Physical therapist (PT) evaluates and treats residents and patients with temporary or long-term physical disabilities to relieve pain, restore function and promote healing by applying the therapeutic properties of exercise, heat, ultrasound, massaged and other forms of treatment. Under a physicians orders, the therapist performs his or her duties within their scope of practice and federal guidelines
PT Qualifications
Bachelors degree plus five years of experience in Physical Therapy or Masters/Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy (please note, no additional experience required with attainment of Masters/Doctorate Degree)
One year of clinical experience preferred.
Current license to practice Physical Therapy issued by the state where applicable.
PT Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reviews physicians referrals and patents conditions and medical records to determine in consultation with the physician, the appropriate physical therapy treatment(s) required.
Evaluates plans and administers medically prescribed physical therapy treatment to patients suffering from injuries, or muscle, nerve, joint and bone diseases related to neuromuscular and musculoskeletal systems to improve or restore function, relieve pain and prevent disability. Provides treatment in accordance with the patients plan of care.
Tests and measures patients muscle strength, motor development, range of motion, coordination, sensory perception, functional capacity and respiratory/circulatory efficiency.
Maintains patient records, recording treatment, response and progress in patient charts.
Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatment to achieve maximum benefit.
Administers treatments for the specific needs of the patient including any of the following:
Application of physical agents, using equipment, such as hydrotherapy tanks and whirlpool baths, moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps and ultrasound machines.
Administration of massage, massage techniques and body physiology.
Application of traction equipment to relieve pain.
Conducts home assessments as needed to ensure patient is being discharge to an appropriate and safe environment.
Timely, accurately and ethically completes required forms and documents in accordance with company policy and state and/or federal regulations.
