Position Type: Special Education Services/Physical Therapy AssistantDate Posted: 11/5/2024Location: Special ServicesReports To: Physical Therapist FSLA Status: Non-Exempt Compensation: 156 (Salary determined by experience) Work Days: 181 FTE: 7 hours per dayPhysical Therapy Assistant Position Summary: Assists the Physical Therapist in providing educationally necessary intervention in the area of motor skill development, focusing on preventing or reducing the effects of a disability and/or dysfunction, of children, to promote learning within the student's educational program. Services are provided in a variety of school settings, ranging from pre-school to high school. Essential Duties:
- Assists in providing Physical Therapy services for students under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.
- Communicates with educational staff, related service staff, parents, caretakers, and other professionals concerned with student's educational program and progress.
- Maintains appropriate therapy records, i.e.; documentation, schedules, progress notes, IEP, monthly reports, etc.
- Participates in professional growth by attending meetings, in-services, and workshops related to the best practices of providing Physical Therapy in the school setting.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- To ensure continuity of services, alternative work site may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee's eligibility for alternative work site will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for alternative work site will be distributed by the employee's supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
Job Specifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):
- Must have graduated from a program for Physical Therapist Assistants accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education or approved successor organization, and hold an Associate's Degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
- Current license awarded by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision required.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel to different school sites to perform duties listed above.
- Knowledge of adaptive equipment and assistive technology which may be required to address access needs of children with disabilities.
- Ability to develop and implement instructional plans relating to motor development in the school setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other professionals.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to the changing needs of students.
- Knowledge of District, State and Federal special education regulations as they relate to service for motor development.
