- Physical therapy services are provided in response to a physician's referral and physical therapist's plan of care, in accordance with the laws governing the state of New Mexico, and within the scope of the therapist assistant's training, knowledge, and experience. This may include, but is not limited to, treatment of functional mobility, motor function, muscular strengthening, sensation, wounds, ambulation, balance, social, and environmental needs. Direct patient care is provided to individuals of all ages, as his or her caseload demands. Physical therapist assistants will assist in coordinating and providing patient and family education, and execute effective physical therapy services as appropriate. Therapist assistants will consult and coordinate with interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive treatment. The employee will participate in educational programs, quality improvement, and program development. Non-patient responsibilities are to be completed as assigned. Therapist assistants will pursue continued education opportunities and educational goals in addition to assisting with the marketing of physical therapy services.
Essential Functions:
- Providing skilled treatment of functional mobility, motor function, muscular strengthening, sensation, wounds, ambulation, balance, social, and environmental needs
- Following an appropriate plan of care that includes measurable functional goals while considering patient's psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs
- Providing clear documentation that meets APTA guidelines and billing for appropriate charges in a timely manner
- Perform family/caregiver/patient education to increase independence upon discharge.
Additional Responsibilities:
- May be required to work occasional weekends
Knowledge/skill/abilities:
- Basic computer
- Ability to efficiently schedule and perform patient care independently
Minimum position qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of nationally-accredited PTA program
- Work experience: Greater than one year of experience preferred, but new graduates welcomed to apply
- License/Certifications: Must be eligible for current licensure with the New Mexico State Physical Therapy Board. BLS required before employment begins.
