Shift:Description:POSITION PURPOSEAssists Physical Therapists with assigned portions of patient's program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Implements portions of a patient's physical therapy program including modalities, gait training, therapeutic exercise and transfer training after established treatment program by a Physical Therapist.
- Modifies treatment programs as needed and progresses patients as tolerated based on observation and in consultation with Physical Therapist.
- Observes and reports patient's responses to treatment and records changes in medical record.
- Instructs patients' family in exercise program or ambulation or transfer techniques.
- Schedules patients for treatment and directs Patient Care Assistants with regards to transportation and transfers of patients.
- Communicates with nurses, physicians, Rehab Team members, other members of the Physical Medicine Staff and other health care personnel regarding status of patients.
- Orders equipment for patients, after consultation with Physical Therapist. Documents patient's progress, which is co-signed by Physical Therapist.
- Charges accurately for treatment provided.
- Assists Physical Therapist directly in administering tests and evaluation procedures in complex cases. Participates in in-service education and continuing education.
- Assists with routine maintenance of equipment, linens and facility for patient treatment area, including filling and cleaning hydrotherapy equipment.
- Reports faulty equipment and need for additional supplies to either the Physical Therapy Supervisor or Physical Therapy Manager.
- Provides quality patient care considering age specific, developmental and cultural needs through competent practice and application of the physical rehabilitation process.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSUREAssociate's degree in physical therapy. One to three months on the job training or previous experience.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES- Knowledge of physical therapy treatments. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively instruct patients and family members in treatment programs and help motivate patients to exert themselves during therapy sessions which are sometimes painful or uncomfortable.
- Analytical skills necessary to identify and report changes in patients' condition or equipment malfunctions.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 80%of work time when administering treatments, observing patients and documenting progress/condition. Able to react quickly in sudden unplanned situations, in order to prevent or minimize injuries to patients and/or staff.
- Able to walk and stand for up to 75% of work time while administering treatments. Able to lift, push and pull weights with an effective force of approximately 40-60 pounds (with or without mechanical devices or other personnel) for up to 25 % of work time when positioning and moving patients.
- Able to communicate effectively with patients, patient's families and other health center personnel.
