GENERAL SUMMARY: Summary:The Physical Therapist Assistant is a Delaware licensed professional who is responsible and accountable for performing physical therapy services for inpatients and outpatients under the overall supervision of a Physical Therapist. These services include planning, implementing, delivering and assessing the effectiveness of the treatment rendered. Regular direct/ongoing communication with the assigned or Supervisor PT regarding patients on caseload is expected. The Physical Therapist Assistant must be able to provide services across the lifespan and work in both outpatient and inpatient settings as appropriate to the employee's skill set and department requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:1. Provision of Care/Services a. Follows the plan of care as documented by the Physical Therapistb. Provides comprehensive treatment to patients across the lifespan as appropriatec. Notifies the primary therapist when modifications to the plan of care are needed based on progression/regression of the patient or change in medical statusd. Incorporates a variety of treatment techniques based upon the needs of the patiente. Appropriately prioritizes daily activities with consideration of individual and departmental needsf. Focuses on achieving the greatest well-being and the highest potential for the patient/clientg. Collaborates with nursing and allied health staff to assure optimal patient careh. Demonstrates competence on departmental skills checklists2. Documentation/Data Managementa. Documentation is timely, accurate, and completed by end of work shift daily, manual and electronicb. Documentation reflects performance of procedures and treatments in the plan of care and physician prescriptionc. Assures documentation in the patient record is sufficient for other staff to be able to carry out an appropriate treatmentd. Compliance with legal, departmental, organizational, accrediting agency policies including protocols and multidisciplinary toolse. Bills patients appropriately. Billing is turned in on the same day as treatment renderedf. Accurate and timely data collection per department requirements3. Communication/Interpersonal a. Maintains ongoing and effective collaboration between front office and other therapy staffb. Facilitates internal and external communication by participating in collaborative relationships with other health practitioners and the public at largec. Provides Supervisor/Manager with ongoing feedback of patient and/or departmental concerns4. Fiscal Responsibilitiesa. Takes responsibility for content presented at all staff meetings and applies information to daily activities as directedb. May attend continuing education courses that benefit the organizational objectives as directede. May serve on departmental/organizational committee as approved by Manager6. Student and Volunteer Oversighta. Appropriately utilizes, communicates with and monitors the activities of Physical Therapist Assistant students and volunteers as directed by the leadership team and within the licensure regulations in the State of Delawareb. Completes, in a timely fashion, all necessary paperwork 7. Performance Improvementa. Accurately identifies, understands, and participates in Performance Improvement activities within the department, as directed by Supervisor/Managerb. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of current organizational Performance Improvement initiativesc. Communicates with the Supervisor/Manager to utilize current Performance Improvement data to improve clinical outcomes and efforts to achieve best practice standards of care8. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL:- Education Associate Degree Physical Ther Assist
- Credential Delaware State Certification/LicenseBasic Life Support
EXPERIENCE:Preferred: One to two years' experienceBoth inpatient and outpatient experience preferred
