Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

At NYC H + H/Kings County, the Internal Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) Service functions independently from the house-staff service. It is staffed by Physician Assistants with 24/7 PA coverage and direct attending supervision. Elicits a detailed and accurate history and performs an appropriate physical examination on patients on the in-patient floors. Develops an assessment and therapeutic plan and renders ongoing patient care based on this plan in an in-patient setting as per protocol. Orders and interprets appropriate lab tests, radiology, diagnostic procedures and writes prescriptions according to protocols established by medicine service. Performs specific procedures, including but not necessarily limited to drawing blood specimens for testing, blood counts, urinalysis, smears. Initiates consultations and refers patient for special testing according to hospital protocols. Participates in daily rounds to observe and record pertinent progress of patients, updating and summarization charts, writing orders and progress notes and notifying the MD in charge of the patient's condition/status, when appropriate. Participate in IDT rounds and conferences, lectures and grand rounds for the service. Performs BLS and ACLS procedures in the presence of life-threatening situations such as cardiac and/or respiratory distress when an MD is unavailable and with physician when available

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current New York State registration as a Physician Assistant;
• Current certification issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA);
• Two years of full time, satisfactory clinical experiences as a Physician Assistant.
