Overview:

Good Samaritan University Hospital recently broke ground on its Patient Care Pavilion. This 300,000 square foot addition will be located on the northeast portion of the campus and feature a 75-bay Emergency Department, 16 high-tech replacement operating rooms and three floors of private patient rooms.

An Internal Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (APP), also known as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) specializing in Internal Medicine, plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by providing comprehensive medical care to patients under the supervision of a licensed physician. Their job description may include a wide range of responsibilities, depending on the specific practice and state regulations. Here is a general job description for an Internal Medicine APP:

  • Conduct thorough medical histories and physical examinations of patients.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as blood work, imaging, and electrocardiograms.
  • Make accurate diagnoses and develop treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies, including adjustments to existing medications.
  • Provide preventive care, health promotion, and disease management education to patients.
  • Monitor and manage chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including specialists, nurses, and allied health staff, to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Consult with supervising physicians on complex cases or when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, explaining diagnoses, treatment plans, and expected outcomes.
  • Address patient concerns, answer questions, and provide emotional support.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records, documenting patient encounters, assessments, and treatment plans.
  • Stay current with the latest medical advancements, research, and guidelines relevant to internal medicine.

    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
    • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as practice-specific policies and protocols.
    • Advocate for patients' rights and well-being, ensuring they receive appropriate care and resources.
    • Work collaboratively within the healthcare team, providing guidance and mentorship to colleagues when needed.
    • Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies and provide initial assessment and stabilization until a physician arrives, if necessary.
    • Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity when providing care to diverse patient populations.

    Requirements:

    • PA - Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, minimum Bachelors degree required
    • NP - Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, current RN license and current AANP or ANCC certification

    Experience

    • New graduates are considered

    Certification:

    • Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner certification (AANP or ANCC certification)
    • BLS/ACLS/AED training required and accepted from only 2 organizations:
      • American Heart Association - BLS/ACLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program
      • No online programs from any organization will be accepted.
      • DEA registration required for those with discharge responsibilities.
Posted Salary Range: USD $66.55 - USD $90.00 /Hr. :
