Physician Assistant

Per-Diem

Evening/Night Shifts

Responsibilities:

  • Delivery of all aspects of pre and post-operative critical care as directed by supervising physician.
  • Management of acute post-operative pain.
  • Ordering and administration of parenteral medicines, bolus doses and transfusions subject to co-signature of supervising physician within 24 hours of written order.
  • Ordering, performing and interpreting diagnostic tests and invasive bedside procedures under the direction of the supervising physician.
  • Insertion of IV lines; removal of Swan-Gantz and arterial catheters; administering PCA.
  • Makes rounds with Attending and Resident physicians. Follows up on plans formulated on rounds.
  • Discharges patients with Attending approval, when appropriate.
  • Assists the supervising physician in coordinating management plan.
  • Monitors and evaluates the patient's treatment and health care plan for effectiveness and modifies as necessary.
  • Documents all assessments, findings, progress and care provided in the patient's medical record.
  • Refers relevant clinical issues to the supervising physician.
  • Works collaboratively with all nursing and other hospital staff as required.
  • Adheres to all practice standards outlined by Hospital Administration and governing regulatory bodies.

Department Requirements:

  • Displays a positive attitude toward work assignments, performance feedback, and interactions with co-workers, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Willingly adheres to Department and Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Maintains computer literacy, including proficiency in Outlook email and E-learning.
  • Attends Department meetings regularly and punctually.
Qualifications
  • Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited school of nursing
  • licensure as an NP and RN in the state of NY
  • board certification as a Nurse Practitioner, required
  • DEA
  • CPR certification: BLS, ACLS
  • Prior critical care experience preferred
  • experience with an EMR (preferably Epic)

  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to influence others are essential
  • Proactive and outstanding decision-making abilities
  • Ability to work with varied members of the medical team (surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, etc)
