Visas AcceptedN/ASpecialtyGeneral SurgeryPractice DetailsOrange City Area Health System (OCAHS)a 25-bed critical access hospital including a private birth center and a surgical center featuring three ORs and an endoscopy suite - is seeking a BC/BE General Surgeon. This individual will fill a position being vacated due to a retirement and will be part of a group practice of three general surgeons. The health system also employs 25 physicians and APPs.•In addition to the hospital and surgery center, the health system's main campus includes a family medicine clinic, sports medicine clinic, behavioral health clinic, pain management clinic, physical and occupational therapy, lab, and radiology. Onsite radiologists and imaging services include state-of-the art MRI, CT, ultrasound, and mammography.•General surgery clinic is located adjacent to the family medicine clinic along with radiology.•Typical schedule for general surgeons is two weeks on / one week off with four months off per year.•Must be willing to perform C-sections. Annual births range from 200-250.•OCAHS performed 1100+ total surgeries and over 1000 scopes last year.•Besides general surgery procedures, specialty surgeries performed in the hospital's surgery center include orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT, and more.Community DescriptionOrange City Area Health System is a comprehensive health system with 600 employees, encompassing three family medicine clinics, a walk-in clinic, ER/emergency medicine, sports medicine clinic, behavioral health clinic, pain management clinic, award-winning hospital, birth center, surgical center, radiology and laboratory services, occupational health services, specialty outreach services, physical and occupational therapy, home health and hospice, a retirement community, and a senior care center. OCAHS operates under a management agreement with Sanford Health, which includes the Epic platform and other resources.Job DescriptionGeneral Surgery Core Privileges include the ability to admit, evaluate, diagnose and provide pre-, intra-, and postoperative care and perform surgical procedures for adolescents and adults (except where specifically excluded from practice and except for those special procedure privilege), to correct or treat various conditions, illnesses, and injuries of the alimentary tract, abdomen and its contents, breast, skin, soft tissue, head and neck, endocrine system, and minor extremity surgery. Surgery Core privileges also include the ability to provide for the on-call emergent/urgent needs of the pediatric and pre-adolescent surgical patient within the core privilege definition.QualificationsM.D. or D.O. degree.Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways:An applicant who has just completed a residency shall provide his/her residency or fellowship log.ORAn applicant who is not applying directly out of a residency shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the past 12 months, including numbers of procedures morbidity, mortality, infection rates and other complications. Applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in the clinical aspects of General Surgery and case volumes should show performance of at least 100 procedures in the past 12 months.ORIf a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant's clinical activity for the past 12 months is required. Applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in the clinical aspects of General Surgery and case volumes should show performance of at least 100 procedures in the past 12 months.More education and experience may be required the more advanced the practice becomes. Successful completion of a hospital affiliated surgical residency program or a clinical fellowship of at least five years' duration accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada. The Credentials Committee; Physician Executive or Medical Affairs Committee; and the Board of Directors or the Board of Governors may consider training at residency programs accredited by organizations other than the above.Certification by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable. Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
