This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Licensure and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Physical Requirements: See outlined below.
  • English Language Proficiency: Proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred Experience:

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Hematology/Oncology
  • Teaching experience
  • Bone Marrow biopsy training
  • Responsibilities:

    The Hematology/Oncology Physician's responsibilities will include day-to-day care of our veteran patients, both in the inpatient and outpatient settings, and actively participating in the educational mission of the agency. Experience is highly desirable, and the Physician must have expertise and experience with chemotherapy and other hematology and oncology procedures. Strong communication and leadership skills are important qualifications.

    The Candidate should meet requirements for academic appointment with Texas A&M School of Medicine at Assistant or higher level position. The section of Hematology and Oncology at CTVHCS is part of Medical Service and plays a key role in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of malignancies. The section is academically affiliated with Texas A&M School of Medicine and one of the key sites for the Hematology and Oncology fellowship program at Baylor Scott and White Healthcare.
