We are currently seeking one Extra-Help Physician's Assistant with proven experience, for a part-time (20 hour per week) position in our Surgical Specialty clinics. Under general supervision, the Physician Assistant will provide health care services such as conducting complete physical examinations, developing diagnostic impressions and managing care of a variety of surgical specialties, such as Orthopedic, Musculoskeletal, General Surgery, Vascular, and Neurosurgery. The Surgical Specialty PA will primarily work in the outpatient setting, including our satellite clinics, but will have opportunities to assist in the operating room and inpatient units.
The ideal candidate will have:
* At least 3 years of paid Physicians Assistance experience in the areas of Orthopedics
* Experience working with electronic medical records
* Bilingual skills (English/Spanish)
* Commitment to community health/underserved populations
NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.
NOTE: This list will be used for extra-help hire only. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Perform an appropriate history, physical examination and assessment of the patient and records pertinent data.
* Perform or assist in performing laboratory and screening procedures delegated by the specialist, provided that the procedures are consistent with the physician's practice and the patient's condition.
* Perform or assist in performing therapeutic procedures delegated by the supervising physician.
* Recognize and evaluate situations which call for the immediate attention of the specialist and institute, where necessary, treatment procedures essential for the life of the patient.
* Assist the specialists by arranging admissions, making appropriate entries in the patient's medical record, reviewing treatment and therapy plans, ordering routine diagnostic laboratory tests and radiological and other services, and by providing continuing care to patients following discharge.
* Act as first or second assistant in surgery under the direct supervision of the surgeon.
* Facilitate the surgeon's referral of patients to the appropriate health facilities, agencies and resources of the community.
* Transmit via the patient's medical record a prescription from the specialist to a person who lawfully may furnish the medication.
* Perform related duties as assigned.
Licensure/Certification:
* Possession of a certificate as a Physician's Assistant issued by the Physician's Assistants examining Committee of the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance.
* Possession of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Knowledge of:
* Principles, practices and procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of common health problems related to the area of practice.
* Medications commonly used in the specialty area including indications of their use, anticipated therapeutic effect and side effects.
* Quality assurance and infection control practices and procedures.
* Clinical significance of laboratory test results.
* Operation and care of medical equipment and instruments used in the area of practice.
* Laws and regulations relevant to professional practice as a Physician's Assistant.
* Regulations contained in title 16, Chapter 13.8 of the California Administrative Code.
Skill/Ability to:
* Provide health care services which include taking a complete medical history and performing a physical examination and other related clinical procedures.
* Identify and manage health problems common to the area of practice.
* Develop and implement treatment plans for patients according to prescribed policies, protocols, and scope of licensure.
* Analyze and interpret health information or data.
* Establish and maintain effective professional relationships with patients and health care personnel.
* Maintain accurate records.
