Minimum Annual or Hourly Rate $45,000 Salary Band: UC S03 Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Physics Department at Wright State University is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Laboratory Manager to oversee the coordination of teaching laboratories for Introductory Algebra and Calculus-based Physics courses, specifically PHY1110L, PHY1120L, PHY2400L, and PHY2410L. The Laboratory Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of 18-20 laboratory sections per semester, including scheduling, equipment management, and educational support.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field.

* Proven experience in a laboratory setting, with a strong background in physics laboratory work.

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's degree is preferred.

* Previous experience in laboratory management or a supervisory role is highly desirable and classroom supervisory/teaching experience.

Essential Functions and percent of time:

Scheduling of Laboratory Sections (20%):

* Develop and manage the schedule for all laboratory sections, ensuring optimal use of resources and alignment with course requirements.

* Coordinate with faculty to accommodate any changes or special needs.

Teaching Assistant Management (35%):

* Assign teaching duties to laboratory instructors and teaching assistants.

* Oversee the recruitment, training, and professional development of teaching assistants to ensure they are well-prepared for their roles

Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd):

Equipment Setup and Maintenance (45%):

* Prepare and set up laboratory equipment and materials before each experiment.

* Perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment to ensure it is in good working condition.

Laboratory management requires working with hazardous materials. Exposure to chemical fumes may occasionally occur.
