Position Information Working Title Piano Technician Department Glenn Korff School of Music-1032 Requisition Number S_240885 Posting Open Date 08/30/2024 Application Review Date: (To ensure consideration, please submit all application materials before review date) 09/16/2024 Posting Close Date Open Until Filled Yes Description of Work The Piano Technician is responsible for the tuning, preparation and care of the piano and keyboard inventory which consists of 115 pianos and harpsichords and various other keyboards. Expectations for the maintenance of the keyboard inventory includes, frequent tuning, regulating, voicing and day to day repairs as well as the handling of emergency repairs. Also strategic planning of preventative maintenance such as rebuilding and restoring as time permits. This position is integral in the preparation of concert instruments for performances by faculty, students, ensembles and visiting artists. Other responsibilities include moving pianos as needed, recommending replacements and/or repairs, and maintaining accurate records of all inventory. This position will also serve to provide adequate education and training for usage of the School's piano and keyboard inventory to faculty, staff, students and outside individuals as appropriate and approved by the Director. This position will instruct one course in piano tuning every two years. See: Minimum Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree plus 2 years' experience as a professional piano technician in a piano shop, concert hall, performing arts center or university. Professional experience with piano tuning that includes advanced skills in concert piano preparation, regulation and voicing. Experience in inventory, tuning and maintenance record keeping; the repair and maintenance of keyboards; education and/or experience in aural tuning and piano maintenance is required; education and/or experience in aural tuning and basic period keyboard instruments maintenance is required.Strong time management and excellent project management skills, with a proven ability to prioritize maintenance work around intensive concert, teaching, and university schedules. Preferred Qualifications Ideal candidate will have Registered Piano Technician through the Piano Technicians Guild. Steinway Factory training. Supervise student workers and provide effective guidance in tuning and maintenance. Perform work within a piano workshop or on-site. Previous association with a higher education school of music. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with faculty, staff, students, guest artists and other colleagues. Good computer skills, FileMaker Pro a plus. Budget management experience. Pre-Placement Driving Record Review Required No Physical Required No Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
