Responsibilities and Duties:
- Coordinate, layout, fit up, install, assemble, and/or repair commercial piping systems including fixtures and equipment for piping systems.
- Perform field fabrication of piping systems and set up the specific task or project schedule.
- Sweat, braze, and weld copper systems.
- Install hangars or supports for piping systems.
- Make adjustments to work sequences to meet construction schedules, using own knowledge of equipment and lower-level personnel capacities.
- Manage materials to ensure timely completion of the work scheduled. Ensure optimal material consumption.
- Read blueprints and interpret specifications.
- Correct punch-list items and make distribution as required.
- Plan work to make the most efficient use of assigned manpower and other resources.
- Inspect work-in-progress and completed work to ensure conformance to contract and specification.
- Ensure the needs of general contractors, owners, and other customers as well as entrusted employees are met.
- Keep the superintendent or project manager aware of all issues affecting production and schedule.
- Assist project manager and superintendents with problems or questions in an accurate and timely manner.
- Attend, as required, all jobsite and office meetings related to assigned projects.
- Serve as a coach and mentor to lower echelon to help them develop and improve their skills and increase their technical knowledge.
- Strengthen skills to encourage improvement in other pipefitters.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience/Qualifications Required:
- 5+ years commercial experience in pipefitting/welding in field plumbing operations.
- Prior shop experience a plus.
- Completion of Apprenticeship program preferred.
- Stable work history.
Job Skills:
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Knowledge of plumbing and piping installation.
- Ability to fabricate offsets.
- Working knowledge of all hand and power tools.
- Able to do take-offs.
- Able to install equipment.
- Works within precise limits or standards of accuracy and productivity.
- Good math skills.
Education:
- High School or GED Equivalent.
- Trade School a plus.
- Minimum of 150 hours in pipe welding courses.
- Willing to obtain additional trade licenses and/or certifications.
Physical Requirements:
- Eyesight correctable to 20/50.
- Able to work long hours on feet.
- Able to lift and climb ladders and scaffolds.
- Able to perform shift work.
- Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 60lbs.
- Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must not be afraid of heights.
Special Requirements:
- Valid Driver's License.
- Must provide own basic hand tools.
- Able to operate heavy machinery.
- Journeyman's license if required.
- OSHA 10 certificate.
