Job Description:
Description This position is responsible for the development and growth of the Pipeline & Facilities (P&F) staff in Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Southeast Region. This role will work closely with the Operations Director, P&F Business Line Manager, and other T&D SER department and section managers. Along with the duties below, this position will continue to carry out certain P&F project assignments. Duties/responsibilities for this position includes the following: Organizational
  • Advocate for safety within the department and drive a culture focused on safety and compliance with company, regional and site safety policies.
  • Actively foster a culture based on our MacCulture principles, quality, diversity and inclusion, and team cohesion and camaraderie.
  • Responsible for fostering a healthy, vibrant, and inclusive employee-owner culture within the team through the leverage of sound team-building practices, the promotion and administration of effective conflict resolution, the promotion of ownership mentality, a healthy work-life balance, and community engagement.
  • Provide support and lead initiatives that foster an innovation culture that challenges the norm and utilizes tools, technology and processes to drive continuous improvement and efficiency.
  • Provide overall leadership to the team through effective communication, empowering others, and servant leadership.
  • Interpret and support established policies, procedures, purposes, and strategic goals for the department and T&D SER Global Practice to staff.
  • Approve timecards and maintain billable time. Work closely with P&F Business Line Manager and regional T&D management to develop and achieve annual billability targets for each report.
  • Approve overhead expenses of direct reports in coordination with regional management policy and guidance.
  • Build strong partnerships and relationships with the other regional office teams, including the Burns & McDonnell India team.
Collaboration
  • Proactively share data, information, and opportunities with the department through MacCentral and department meetings, and continually look for ways to better disseminate the information.
  • Make intentional efforts to maintain personal technical proficiency and connection to the core business line and various segments.
  • Regularly coordinate and collaborate with business line management, segment leads, and other leads to build cohesion and tie the needs of our people to the needs of our business.
  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with national business line management, PMs, segment leads, and other key leadership to support the development of our people.
  • Willingness to travel between regional offices, as needed, to provide adequate in person collaboration, development and mentorship of direct reports.
Resource Management
  • Work in various recruiting channels including but not limited to HR Recruiting team, staffing agencies, staff referrals and direct communication to proactively recruit the best candidates that align with MacCulture principles, department needs, growth strategies and business objectives and retention of staff.
  • Support HR on educational partnerships and internship programs.
  • Support the early careers recruiting team to drive recruiting efforts at colleges and universities in the Southeast.
  • Support onboarding processes for all employee owners transitioning into the P&F department. This is a managerial development duty in addition to assigned ambassador and/or mentor provided for the incoming employee owner.
  • Proactively applies established retention measures and strategies.
  • Coordinating team and mentor assignments of department staff with input from P&F Business Line Manager, project managers, project leads and project engineers for the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
  • Review employee performance and conduct development meetings (90 day and annual performance appraisals, mid-year reviews, coaching sessions, etc.).
  • Work with Human Resources and staff to identify, prepare, communicate, and monitor performance plans for employees with areas of needed improvement.
  • Advocate for staff by meeting regularly, listening and helping to implement their short- and long-term goals, providing guidance, direction, and facilitation of opportunities to meet those goals.
  • Adopt company-approved resource utilization tools to actively manage workload and forecast resource engagement. If necessary, in lieu of approved tools, develop and implement an appropriate internal tool to manage, track, guide, and inform individual resource utilization across the P&F department.
Technical/Execution/Production
  • Identify training needs for the department and support/develop training programs. Collaborate with other SER departments and/or the national P&F business line on shared training.
  • Drive a culture of quality and continuous improvement withing T&D SER P&F and affiliated projects.
  • Advise direct reports on project execution, including scope, budget, schedule and resources.
  • Pursue alignment and support of all location office efforts and initiatives.
  • Advocate for quality and ensure the corporate, SER, and T&D quality initiatives are implemented, including coordinating with the appropriate teams to assign quality control reviewers.
  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
Business Line Support
  • Assist business line with developing and achieving Objectives and Key Results. Develop and champion associated OKR Initiatives.
  • Support in the development and execution of the business line's annual business plan.
  • Promote and support key initiatives in coordination with senior management.
  • Assisting with and leading proposal and pursuit efforts.
  • Serve in key project support roles for identified clients and/or new clients where required, and where new business is being developed.
  • Strive to meet client business diversity goals and initiatives.
  • Direct the development of department tools and workflows to increase efficiency in designs, specification development, and project execution.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction or related field from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 5 years related professional experience.
  • Registration as a professional engineer, or currently pursuing professional registration strongly preferred.
  • Previous consulting experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven leadership in developing and implementing vision that has brought positive impact.
  • Proven collaboration, facilitation and organization problem solving skills in previous roles.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and team development.
  • This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified technical knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including Ecosys, Microsoft Projects, Power BI and other data modeling systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management including planning, project execution, design team coordination and communication, budgeting, schedule management, safety, quality and client coordination preferred.
  • Demonstrated financial success on completed projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in the pursuit and proposal process.
  • Demonstrated experience in client and business development.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills and able to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management and clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, collaboration, organization and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to influence, lead, and manage change thoughtfully and positively.
  • Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, poise and discernment.
