Salary : $48,948.12 - $71,219.51 AnnuallyLocation : Denison, TXJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 00419Department: Planning & Community DevelopmentDivision: Building, Permitting, & InspectionsOpening Date: 09/26/2024Closing Date: ContinuousDescription Under general direction this position reviews residential and/or commercial building plans for compliance with all building codes, to include electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and any other applicable City ordinances. Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competence and satisfactory performance of these duties. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Examine residential, commercial and/or multifamily construction plans and building permits for compliance with the applicable ICC codes, ADA requirements, State requirements, and City ordinances.
  • Provide information to developers, contractors, colleagues, citizens and property owners in answering questions about ordinances, building codes and construction.
  • Perform research and coordinate with other departments to verify compliance with zoning and other City regulations.
  • Resolve code or structural design issues and assist the public with code questions and interpretations.
  • Attend construction development meetings, design review meetings, and advise applicants of the codes, policies and ordinances for proposed work.
  • Assist the Building Official and Building Inspectors as needed.
  • May perform inspections, as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must have extensive working knowledge of residential and commercial building construction.
  • Must have a working knowledge of construction codes and ordinances.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others in writing and verbally as indicated by the needs of the public and knowing how to find information.
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints, codes and ordinances, and construction plans and specifications.
  • Ability to interpret codes and judge compliance with set standards.
  • To perform essential functions of the job, must be a team player; able to understand and carry out oral and written directives; work well under pressure and deadlines; handle multiple tasks; prioritize and organize work assignments; see, talk, read, hear, and write; work effectively and efficiently with distraught and irate customers and maintain a pleasant and friendly demeanor and personality.

Typical Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • High School Diploma or equivalent; AND five (5) years of construction experience: OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Must possess a current Texas driver's license.
    • International Code Council plan review certification.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • A State of Texas Plumbing Inspector License; or ability to obtain within 18 months.
    • Associate's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or a related field or equivalent experience.
    • Additional ICC certification/ or certifications in any of the Mechanical, Electrical or Plumbing Trades.

    • Work is performed in a standard office environment and occasionally at various inspection sites.
    • Work involves the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, answering phones, performing keyboarding, computer work, viewing digital plans, copying and other administrative work.
    • Work involves the ability to bend or stoop, retrieve files, lift books or other materials, use of tools, ladders and ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
    • Work may be performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g. dirt, cold, rain).
