Summary This position will be responsible for running boards through planer machines that surface boards to desired dimensions and inspecting wood products during the process and through completion. This is a full-time position offering competitive pay and a full benefits package. Essential Duties:
- Observes all safety requirements, including Personal Protective Equipment.
- Daily set-up and operation of the Planer to include changing and jointing of knives, operation of computer-driven production systems, basic troubleshooting and equipment repair, and quality inspections
- Daily performance of preventative maintenance on planer equipment and identifying potential mechanical issues, keeping equipment in condition to effectively meet goals
- Inspects wood products during machining and upon completion.
- Maintains equipment and work area cleanly and safely.
- Recommends changes to improve processes and procedures, improving quality and productivity.
- Trains and assist other employees.
- Collects production data as required and inspects own work.
- Identify opportunities for process, quality, and safety improvements. Communicate improvement opportunities to mill staff with an action plan for improvements
- Support mill quality expectations and demonstrate an understanding of the impacts of quality on mill productivity
- Demonstrate understanding of Planer operations, including proper production levels, operating envelope, safety, and basic care.
- Communicate effectively with employees at various levels in the organization, including production, maintenance, supervisory and corporate staff, to report any issues that impact safety, quality, or production
- Ensure proper disposal of waste materials on completion of job operations.
- Sort and arrange lumber, timbers, and finished goods according to sizes and grades to allow for easy identification.
Education and/or Experience:
- Prior experience is preferred.
