Job Summary The Center for Health Statistics is looking for a dedicated individual to conduct planning and coordination activities around community engagement at the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) related to demographic data collection. As part of this work, you will positively contribute to MDH's Disaggregated Demographic Standards, Data Catalog and Publications Library, by providing a health equity lens to the department's data collection and reporting efforts. This position will engage community stakeholders on MDH's efforts to disaggregate demographic data and build consensus on best practices and effective ways to build capacity using plain language trainings. In this role you will also have the opportunity to collaborate with scientists and epidemiologists throughout MDH and other agencies to develop guidelines for demographic data analysis and reporting capability pertaining to various demographic groups within Minnesota populations. This position will also assist Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB), with efforts to engage in data disaggregation across the state enterprise. Responsibilities Include:
    • Conduct extensive community engagement with external stakeholders to develop, revise, and refine the agency's demographic data disaggregation standards.
    • Collaborate with agency leads across divisions to review and analyze the MDH Data Catalog and MDH Publications Library, focusing on demographic data collection practices.
    • Document and report findings on the adoption of demographic standards by preparing written analyses of data, delivering oral presentations to promote understanding, and making recommendations to address procedural gaps and realign organizational tasks or assignments.
    • Maintain expertise in the science, evaluation, research, and data analysis best practices for assessing health inequities in data standards, while ensuring compliance with the Data Practices Act. This position is eligible for telework applicants who reside in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota. Position locations will be determined by the top candidate and will be based out of one of the following MDH district office locations: St. Paul, St. Cloud, Duluth, Rochester, Marshall, Mankato, Bemidji, or Fergus Falls. Reimbursement for authorized business travel expenses is provided according to bargaining unit guidelines. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications To facilitate proper years of service crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held. Two (2) years of experience in a public health setting conducting any of the following: needs assessments, program evaluation, research studies using primary or secondary database linkage efforts, data analysis and interpretation, management information systems or data selection, monitoring systems in health-related program; AND:
      • Experience with disaggregated and demographic data.
      • Experience analyzing data through a health equity lens.
      • Experience hosting community engagement events. Minimum qualifications to be assessed during the interview process:
        • Experience developing plain language training materials. A related associate degree may be substituted for six (6) months of experience. A related bachelor's degree may be substituted for one(1) year of experience. A related master's degree may be substituted for one and a half (1.5) years of experience. A related doctorate degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience. Preferred Qualifications
          • Degree in epidemiology, economics, environmental health, psychology, health statistics, or health services research or closely related field.
          • Experience working with diverse communities. Additional Requirements
