Job Description:
Description The Plant & Automation Controls Tech will support the start-up of the facility and provide direction and oversight of all activities associated with new technologies (equipment and materials), engineering and process improvements for the eventual pulp manufacturing operation including managing and maintaining the data generated by vision systems used in manufacturing. This role involves ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the data, as well as optimizing the performance of vision systems to support quality control and production efficiency. Job Responsibilities and DutiesKey Responsibilities:
  • Ensure delivery of training for appropriate personnel on new equipment or processes
  • Continuously evaluate or develop equipment which can increase throughput while eliminating non-value-added manufacturing costs
  • Continuously evaluate materials for efficiency in the pulp manufacturing process
  • Design and execute tests to simulate production floor processing to enhance the operation
  • Develop creative manufacturing solutions to enhance the pulp operation
  • Install or oversee the installation of equipment upgrades designed to optimize the pulp manufacturing process
  • Responsible for Vision system maintenance and support.
  • Collect, store, and organize data generated by vision systems.
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy through regular audits and validation processes.
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of vision systems to identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to fine-tune vision system parameters and procedures.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance system efficiency and accuracy.
  • Use vision system data to support quality control processes and ensure product compliance with specifications.
  • Generate reports and visualizations to communicate findings and trends to stakeholders.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for vision system hardware and software.
  • Train staff on the proper use and maintenance of vision systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to vision systems.

RequirementsSafety
  • Ensure my work area is neat and clean
  • Work according to all GMP and Safety rules
  • Shutdown machines in emergencies by using emergency stop buttons/cables in emergency situations
  • Shut down emergency electrical devices and/or main power supply in emergency situations
  • Lockout/Tagout machines whenever necessary (Cleaning or Maintenance)
  • Use all required PPE, including burn sleeves and face shields
  • Identify all nip/pinch points on the line and use proper safe operating techniques for these areas

  • Understand and follow all SAFETY procedures
  • Familiar with using remote PC software.

Physical Characteristics

  • Withstand extreme heat temperatures occasionally
  • Work in a continuous shop floor environment
Educational or Certification Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of pulp and paper manufacturing processes, materials and equipment
  • Strong project management skills; excellent organizational skills with ability to focus on details
  • Ability to organize and lead teams
  • Logical and creative thinker; excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical thinking
  • Capable of effective communication and team building to enhance project coordination
  • Ability to travel, including extended trips as needed
  • Associate degree or greater in Pulp Engineering or a related Automation Control Field
  • 3+ years' experience in manufacturing or engineering roles
  • Prior experience working on a start-up or significant plant expansion
