Provide technical support (including hands-on) resulting in optimization and control of all processes, attainment of production goals and product safety achievement. This requires a strong practical knowledge of manufacturing principles, lean principles, and project management capabilities to identify and implement opportunities to reduce cost. Teamwork and support of fellow employees is essential for meeting team and plant goals in production, quality, and product and employee safety.
- Works closely with Plant Manager, Quality Manager, and Shift Supervisors to get feedback on the operations of each of the processes in order to propose projects, modifications, and preventative maintenance work to avoid shutdowns and/or increase efficiency and/or quality of product
- Repair / replace recycling and extrusion process line equipment as needed to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Prioritize breakdowns based on the input from production.
- Technical support to maintenance and production staff
- Works closely with Maintenance Supervisor for maintenance and repair of equipment, engineering assignments, and equipment installations, including heat related (process and centralized), gas, water, air, and electrical systems
- Works with and directs vendors who design manufacturing equipment and processes
- Work with contractors, equipment manufacturers, and plant personnel to design, install and start-up new machinery
- Make changes and suggestions for drawings for new or existing equipment
- Make suggestions to improve existing processing systems
- Communicates regularly with management regarding progress of projects, updates on budget, and engineering issues as they arise.
Requirements
- Advanced technical education with an emphasis in maintenance and mechanics
- At least 2-years' experience in a processing role
- Experience with plastics extrusion is a plus
- Work safely. Responsible for keeping safety the top priority at all times.
- Strong communication skills, computer literate, and excellent writing style.
- Willing to be a hands-on resource and carry work assignments to completion.
- Practical, organized, common sense approach to problem solving.
- Experience implementing lean manufacturing principles
- Must be able to understand electrical and mechanical schematics for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical problems with minimal supervision.
- Understands electrical diagrams, familiar with 12 VDC to 480 VAC electrical wiring, with diagnostic capability.
- Previous experience with PLC's, VFD's, and relay-based logic.
- Multi discipline mechanical, electrical, HVAC skills and the ability to quickly learn new process/equipment.
