Job Overview

Ethox Chemicals is seeking a skilled and motivated Plant Engineer to join our dynamic team in Greenville, SC. The Plant Engineer is responsible for managing the maintenance shop's operations, including overseeing personnel issues, coordinating maintenance activities, and managing inventory, training, plant utilities, and overall facility upkeep. This role works closely with the Operations Manager to ensure all utilities, systems, and facilities are maintained to the highest standards to support uninterrupted plant operations.

Duties

  • Oversee all personnel-related issues within the maintenance shop, including approvals for promotions, terminations, and new hires, as well as performance reviews for maintenance employees.
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests and provide effective solutions to minimize operational disruption.
  • Issue purchase orders for necessary maintenance materials and work with Inventory Manager and Project Supervisor to ensure proper stock levels and procurement.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the maintenance department as well as communicating revisions to maintenance employees and obtaining signoffs.
  • Supervise the training program for maintenance personnel, working with the Operations Manager to continuously develop and improve the training initiatives.
  • Create and update Preventative Maintenance (PM) tasks and schedules, as well as specific maintenance tasks within plant, ensuring alignment with operational needs.
  • Responsible for working with Operations Manager in supervising the use of the CMMS software and identifying any needed training related to the CMMS system.
  • Responsible for overseeing proper operation, maintenance, upkeep, and requests related to the following areas: boilers and steam distribution, air compressors, forklifts, buildings (janitorial, HVAC, lighting, plumbing), grounds maintenance, electrical power, city water, natural gas, nitrogen, parking, railroad maintenance.
  • Assign personnel to Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) discussions, ensuring proper participation in safety-related evaluations.
  • Coordinates and approves the scheduling of external contractors for maintenance or construction projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in industrial maintenance, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Previous experience in plant maintenance or facilities management
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems as well as industrial utilities (boilers, compressors, electrical distribution, etc.)
  • Experience with CMMS software, inventory management, and preventative maintenance systems
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, including maintenance management software.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to successfully interface with customers, associates, and the community.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to follow complex requests, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Regular and reliable attendance. Required to be on-site.

Physical Requirements: Physical ability to perform the essential job functions of the position, which includes prolonged periods of standing and walking, climbing stairs, performing repetitive hand movement and fine coordination, occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works both indoors and outdoors and must be able to tolerate working in changing weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to loud.
