Purpose of Job The purpose of this job is to perform mechanical/specialty work functions associated with the operation and maintenance of water reclamation systems, maintenance and repair of water treatment plant systems, electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: maintaining records, repairing, maintaining and operating pumps, wells and motors; performing preventive maintenance and manual work activities; performing carpentry, welding, plumbing and concrete finishing tasks; and performing additional tasks as assigned. Job Related Requirements WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, may require some after hour and weekend work occasionally. May be required to work on religious holidays. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Must work cooperatively with others. When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy. Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions High school diploma or equivalent, with one or more years of experience in Mechanics, Pump Maintenance, Water Reclamation Systems, water treatment systems maintenance, wastewater systems maintenance, mechanical operations/maintenance or related experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Georgia Commercial Driver's License within one year of date of hire, depending on area of assignment. Essential Duties, ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Maintains raw water/wastewater treatment equipment including circular and rectangular clarifiers, water basins, filters and Hypo-Chlorite generators to ensure proper operation; maintains lift stations. Performs preventive maintenance activities such as cleaning and greasing pumps, cleaning wet wells, and changing filters. Repairs, rebuilds, or replaces motors, pumps, gear boxes, drive shafts, coupling, and belts. Checks pumps, gauges, backflow devices, clears wells and motors to ensure proper operation. Assists in repairing and troubleshooting electronic low voltage circuitry. Maintains records on pumps, wells and motors. Handles liquid and dry chemicals; handles hazardous chemicals. Maintains inventory of parts and supplies. Performs carpentry, welding, plumbing, and concrete finishing tasks. Performs building and grounds maintenance duties as assigned. Assists in annual inventory reporting and record keeping. Operates and maintains various heavy equipment, lawn maintenance equipment, and specialty equipment (e.g., dump truck, tractor, tanker, bulldozer, drill press, milling machine, grinder, welder, sheet metal equipment, etc.). Operates and performs limited repair on telemetry equipment and SCADA equipment. Operates a computer system to catalog inventory parts and track preventive maintenance schedules. Responds to routine requests for information from, officials, employees, members of the staff, the public or other individuals. Prepares and/or receives various forms, reports or other documents; processes and forwards as appropriate. Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages and/or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, of repair and maintenance techniques for pumps, wells, and motors, and of other procedures and methods as required in the performance of duties. Knowledge of repair and maintenance techniques for pumps and motors. Knowledge of water filter systems and of pneumatic equipment and general mechanical operations. Knowledge of basic electricity, chemistry and mathematics. Skill in repairing and maintaining pumps, reading blueprints and technical manuals, low voltage electrical equipment, maintaining records, and in oral/written communication. Skill in operating various machinery and equipment including a dump truck, tractor, tanker, bulldozer, drill press, milling machine, grinder, welder, sheet metal equipment, mechanic tools, power tools, lawn maintenance equipment, electric meters, plumbing tools, two-way radio, telephone, etc. Skill in performing basic plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repair. Skill in operating a computer and various software programs relevant to the position. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, and other staff members.
