Objectives of the Position
- Successfully manage the day-to-day operations of shops
- Implement new processes and products to drive continuous improvements (e.g., LEAN, Six Sigma, TOPS, TOC, and Root Cause Analysis in both a One-Off and Production Run environments)
- Recommend new equipment and oversee installs and training
- Drive and execute preventative maintenance plans
- Support quality control protocols
- Investigate inefficiencies and opportunities for cost reductions in current processes.
- Work closely with Sales and Customer Service to ensure that the client delivers a quality product on time.
- Ensure that shop employees follow all health and safety guidelines and policies
Duties and Responsibilities of the Position
- Using metrics, 1) ensure the shops are staffed efficiently and employees are engaged, 2) subcontractors are performing as intended, and 3) KPI goals are achieved.
- Plant maintenance is organized around best practices, emphasizing preventive and predictive maintenance while planning/scheduling in coordination with production.
- Under the direction of Conrex's VP of Engineering, organize outside resources for machine repairs required to maintain production (millwrights, fort lift repairs, crane repairs, etc.)
- Ensure safety inspections and individual certifications (i.e., forklift license, crane/fire extinguisher inspections, etc.) are performed and maintained.
- Minimize downtime and late shipments by ensuring production equipment operates and supplies are available when needed.
- Use margin analysis to identify recurring inefficiencies and avoidable costs and deploy process improvements to improve margins.
- Promote and ensure that safety is a part of the culture at the business, with strong ownership by all employees to continually improve.
- Ensure the facilities comply with the relevant OSHA, Department of Labor and EPA regulations.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and planning projects to improve efficiency, creating improvement teams and solving problems that lead to inefficiencies and unreliability.
- Set a high metric and expectation for quality, focused on QC targets and protocols.
- Maintain production schedules that ensure tank heads are shipped on time.
Qualifications or Skills to assist with the role
- Bachelor's degree
- At least 5 years in the steel industry as a minimum.
- At least 3 years as a Plant or Production Manager as a minimum.
- A competent understanding of steel forming processes and hydraulics
- Experience with hot and cold forming processes is a plus
