Reports To: Director of Maintenance and Facilities/Principal Salary: Based on salary schedule for 235 days. FLSA Status: Non-ExemptJob Goal: To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, work, and develop.Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.Qualifications: High School diploma or GED preferred. Valid Alabama driver's license. CDL certification is preferred. Two years of experience in either maintenance or custodial operations. Basic skills and safety knowledge in the areas of electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), painting, locks and doors, landscaping, and other trade skills. Must be able to perform light to heavy manual labor, use hand and power tools, operate custodial and cleaning equipment, and lift up to 50 pounds. Must complete a criminal background check through the Alabama State Department of Education at your own expense. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable. Duties and Responsibilities: Regulates heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperature appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are working properly during the hours of building occupancy. Establishes priorities on repairs and general building maintenance, both inside and outside the building. Examines the school building and grounds on a regular basis for safety, repairs and general maintenance needs. Ensure that classrooms and other areas of the facility are clean and painted as needed. Maintain school grounds, lawns, and trim trees. Assemble various types of furniture and equipment. Complete miscellaneous repairs of doors, windows, locks, desks, lockers, etc. Communicate effectively with school administrators, district office, and maintenance staff regarding faculty requests, maintenance problems, cleaning progress, and other facility issues. Operates within established guidelines for a financial management system that provides a cost-effective program of high integrity. Provide effective office organization and paper management techniques to ensure all records and supporting documentation are maintained in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and policies. Requests assistance for general repairs or projects beyond the capabilities of the school. Replaces light bulbs and cleans light covers as needed with help from custodial personnel. Orders materials and supplies as needed for repairs and general maintenance of the school. Ensure that district receiving procedures are followed. Create an atmosphere for employee productivity and satisfaction in the workplace. Moves furniture, supplies and materials as needed. Inspect all fire extinguishers monthly and ensure all records are maintained accurately. Assist with set up and tear down of all school events. Assists with custodial duties. Assist with floor waxing as needed. Subject to be on call seven days a week, 24 hours a day in case of emergencies that may threaten the school system's property or equipment. Oversees heating and cooling systems. Establish and demonstrate professional status in the education community through continuing education in school plant technology, including current required licensing and certifications. Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
