Essential FunctionsThe essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Performs regularly preventative maintenance on a wide array of machinery including pumps, motors, generators, valves and piping systems. Performs corrective maintenance on plant equipment and process systems such as parts replacement, equipment changes, cleaning of tanks and basins. Services, repairs and replaces, motors, pumps, valves, generators, power tools and plant equipment.Work with manufacturer representatives, part suppliers and repair facilities.Reads, maintains and repairs gauges and meters to ensure the proper operations of water systems. Be able to read and understand system drawings and technical manuals.Performs a variety of plumbing and metal fabrication duties. Lubricates and packs pumps; replaces mechanical seals and other worn or damaged parts on pumping equipment.Maintains up-to-date and accurate manuals and reference guides, records and logs of operating conditions of equipment and maintenance work performed by entering data on a computer for tracking repairs and maintenance of completed work orders. Maintains repairs parts and supply inventory. Follows the City's safety and accident protocols. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance work on equipment containing Hazardous Chemicals.Follows the City's hurricane preparedness plan for emergency generators.Required to work extended hours during and after hurricanes or other disasters and maintains 24-hour emergency contact. Maintains work area, vehicles and shop in a clean orderly manner.Exercises intertie valves with surrounding cities to ensure proper working order, if necessary, for emergency or shortage.Must be able to use a computer to utilize asset management systems, prepare documents, print forms, use the City's work order system, and view SCADA screens. Typical Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:High School Graduation or GED equivalent.Two (2) years of experience in mechanical, plumbing or electrical trade, preferably at journeyman level, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.Valid Florida Commercial Driver's License Class B with Air Brakes or must be able to obtain Class B CDL with Air Brakes within one (1) year of employment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Work Environment and Work Hours KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge in the operation of CMMS systems. Knowledge of mechanical, plumbing and electrical repair procedures and related safety hazards. Skill in the repair and maintenance of pumps, motors, engines, valves and other related machinery and equipment.Skilled in the use of mechanics tools and shop equipment as it relates to repair and maintenance of water plant equipment.Ability to use and operate specialty tools to diagnose and repair related equipment.
