Essential Job Functions: Works on an assigned rotating shift, operates control panels, pumps, chemical feed equipment, chlorinators, pH meter, DO meter, chlorine colorimeter, laboratory balance, muffle furnaces, gas fired boilers, sludge press, electric motors, raw discharge pumps; performs a variety of tests on wastewater for chemical and physical sludge thickeners, clarifiers, remote automatic samplers; checks, cleans, oils, and greases pumps, motors, air compressors, and mechanical equipment as needed. Other Job Functions: Performs other duties as required. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather; exposed to noise, electrical equipment, snakes and other reptiles, raw sewage, sludge, fumes, hazardous chemicals, must be available to work any shift, holidays, and weekends as needed. Knowledge: Must have knowledge of the functions and operations of a biological wastewater treatment facility disinfection, sludge processing, and maintaining operating mechanical equipment. Skills/Abilities: Know the processes involved in the wastewater treatment and pumping of wastewater, including the laboratory analysis and mechanical machinery operation; ability to detect flaws and problems, defects in operation; ability to read and comprehend meters and charts accurately, and to maintain daily records of shift operations; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, use telephone, two-way radio, and deal with the public in a professional, courteous manner; ability to perform mathematical calculations using a calculator; ability to perform data entry into a personal computer; ability to work independently and monitor the operation of the wastewater treatment plant and wetlands. Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears; frequently twist body, answers telephone, bends, climbs, kneels, reaches, stands, walks, carries and holds objects weighing up to 50lbs. Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or GED. experience in the operation and maintenance of mechanical and measuring equipment, using physical dexterity, and operating a two-way radio. Experience in plant operations and shift work preferred. Must have ability to obtain Class D Wastewater license within two (2) years. The Class D Wastewater license is not renewable at the capacity of the City of Beaumont's trickling filter plant. Therefore, must obtain a Class C Wastewater license within the three (3) years immediately following the issuance of a Class D Wastewater license. Must possess a valid Class C Texas driver's license and a good driving record. Class B/CDL preferred. Other state valid Class C driver's licenses with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license. Applicant selected for hire shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing.
