Summary You will serve as a PLASTIC FABRICATOR LEADER in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, COATINGS & COVERINGS SHOP of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will instruct plastic fabricator, plastic workers, rubber workers, plastic fabricator helpers, and student trainees (Plastic Fabricator), on proper work procedures and methods, use of tools, and safety pertaining to shop trade skills. You will give appropriate skills training utilizing shop training tools such as mock-ups, in shop areas or facilities, a appropriate, and on deck-plates. You will work with trainees by demonstrating skills, work procedures and safety precautions and has the trainees demonstrate their knowledge of the skill . You will read blueprints, sketches, drawings, and Process Instructions (P.I.) Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Lead Or Supervise Demonstrating knowledge of the various rubber/plastics and fiberglass operations aboard ship and in the shop and be completely SHT qualified. Operating and setting up various rubber and plastics machinery and equipment relative to the trade. Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, drawings, and P.I.s. Ensuring that necessary materials and tools and other supplies needed to perform work are available. Checking work in progress and make sure safety practices and good housekeeping are followed. Assigning and distributing work to keep work crew productive at the journeyman or artisan level.
