Department Summary We are the Auxiliary Maintenance Team within the Maintenance division of UNT Facilities. Our team performs the routine and preventative maintenance that is vital to the resident and dining experience within our resident halls, dining facilities and many of our Sorority chapter locations. We work in close coordination and cooperation with our partners within the Housing and Auxiliary Services Department to make residence life our number one priority. Auxiliary Maintenance is a culmination of several trades including structural, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and access control. We currently maintain facilities across 15 resident halls, 6 dining facilities and 7 Sorority Houses plus the Center for Sorority-Fraternity Life and the UNT Welcome Center. Our goal is to provide the most reliable, efficient and outstanding service to our residents, who rely on our maintaining their living and dining spaces so they can focus on their education. We take great pride in what we do, and strive for excellence in service daily. Position Overview This position is responsible for intermediate skilled craftwork that involves heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) work. Duties include installation, maintenance, repair, and service of building systems and requires advanced skills in a primary craft and may require limited competency in a secondary craft. This position will primarily work in Residential and Dining buildings across campus Inspects and investigates leaks to determine appropriate actions to resolve and repair; maintains, installs, and replaces various plumbing pipes, fittings, fixtures, valves, and other related appliances within campus facilities and infrastructure according to the international plumbing code. ** Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes and opening clogged drains; repairs and maintains Internal plumbing systems and external drains; cleans plumbing systems utilizing appropriate equipment as well as hot or cold water systems, steam heating, compressed air, gas supply, and lab equipment. ** Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, and upgrades all equipment associated with HVAC for building on the UNT Denton Campuses. Systems include but are not limited to: fan coil units, roof top units, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, DX systems. ** Reports needed equipment and supplies in order to maintain proper amounts of inventory to perform jobs in a timely manner. ** Inspects HVAC systems and their components (heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilations units, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance. ** Prepares equipment and plans for plumbing job by reading blueprints, coordinating with coworkers and assembling appropriate equipment. ** Other duties as assigned. ** May be assigned to the on call rotation. ** This position is considered to be essential personnel, and may require working overtime, which could include nights and weekends as needed. Minimum Qualifications Five years' of experience in maintenance/repair or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities ** Knowledge of and skill in use of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general maintenance task ** Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance ** Knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and working drawings. ** Ability to use basic shop math applications. ** Ability to locate and identify problems in appropriate building system or equipment and to plan and execute necessary repairs. ** Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting and crawling, and to remain outdoors in inclement weather. ** Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed. Preferred Qualifications Tradesman Plumber License HVAC Certified Technician License EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification Required License/Registration/Certifications Possession of a valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles. Job Duties:
  • Inspects and investigates leaks to determine appropriate actions to resolve and repair; maintains, installs, and replaces various plumbing pipes, fittings, fixtures, valves, and other related appliances within campus facilities and infrastructure according to the international plumbing code.
  • Prepares written or digital materials (repair status, activity logs, parts requests, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
  • Inspects HVAC systems and their components (heating/cooling units, building exhaust fans, ventilations units, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.
  • Performs daily inspections of building mechanical rooms and reports findings.
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and rectifies problems through the many mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to include electrical motors, compressors and actuators.
