Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced plumber to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a background in installing and repairing a wide range of plumbing systems and fixtures.
Responsibilities include inspecting, installing and repairing fixtures such as hot and cold water systems, vent pipes, condensate drains, and water fountains, ensuring all work complies with local, state, and BOCA codes. Additionally, the role involves installing and repairing various pumps and related systems, conducting repairs on existing plumbing systems including toilets, drains, sinks, and small pumps, and inspecting water heaters of all sizes for proper functionality and safety. The successful candidate will also provide support and guidance on proper materials, methods, and practices for plumbing installations and repairs. Furthermore, this position may require assisting with operations, maintenance, and renovation tasks, including preventive maintenance, light carpentry, painting, electrical work, and responding to emergency and urgent maintenance needs. Install or assist with installation of new fixtures (hot & cold water, vent pipe, chilled water, condensate drains, water fountains, etc.) using the proper materials, methods, and procedures. These installations shall meet any local, state, and BOCA codes.
Install or assist with installation/repair of a variety of pumps and related systems
Repairs to existing plumbing systems including toilets, drains, sinks, small pumps, etc.
Inspect water heaters of all sizes.
Miscellaneous support to all shops as to proper materials, methods, and practices in the installation or assistance with the installation of plumbing systems.
May be asked to assist with other duties related to operations, maintenance and renovations to buildings and equipment such as preventive maintenance; light duty carpentry, painting, electrical and other miscellaneous repair and maintenance activities; and respond to emergency and urgent work.
There will be regular exposure to disagreeable conditions such as extreme temperature changes, odors, loud noises, cramped spaces etc.
Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves, safety glasses, etc.). These items are provided and not for personal use.
This position regularly stands, bends, stoops, lifts above the shoulders, is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.
The employee in this position may be required to work overtime after 4 pm, shift work, and be on a rotating standby for emergencies during non-business hours, including when the university is closed and/or other events after 5 pm on weekdays, weekends, and holidays when management deems necessary. The ability to perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management, regardless of weather, will be required; therefore, deeming you as essential personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:
Plumber I - High school diploma/GED and one year of prior successful work experience in plumbing, gas piping installations, drain cleaning and other utility experience in the building trades or technical field.
Plumber II - High school diploma/GED and two years of prior successful work experience in plumbing, gas piping installations, drain cleaning and other utility experience in the building trades or technical field.
Plumber III - High school diploma/GED and three years of prior successful work experience in plumbing, gas piping installations, drain cleaning and other utility experience in the building trades or technical field. Will require a Journeyman license before hire.
Plumber IV - High school diploma/GED and five years of prior successful work experience in plumbing, gas piping installations, drain cleaning and other utility experience in the building trades or technical field. Will require a Plumber's Contract license before hire.
Post-secondary may be substituted for experience; preference given to post-secondary education in plumbing.
Have, before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver's license. A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required to perform the job duties as assigned.
Candidate position placement is dependent upon years of experience and availability.
Working knowledge of plumbing codes and how to install systems to meet these codes. Knowledge of various materials that can be used and meet all codes.
Ability to follow instructions precisely and completely.
Must have good communication skills.
Ability to work with little to no supervision.
Positive team standing.
Ability to become proficient in the use of AiM computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.
Must work safely, adhere to all safety requirements, and promote a safe work environment.

Vocational/Technical degree.
