Non Instructional/Operations - Plumbing Craftsman Job Number 460####### Start Date Open Date 05/10/2023 Closing Date Summary: Performs skilled plumbing work in the installation, maintenance and repair of district plumbing systems and components. Works independently under the general supervision of the plumbing specialist assigned to the geographical area.Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)Maintains all plumbing systems within CMS according to the state and local code enforcement requirements; collaborates with Mecklenburg County Departments of Code Enforcement, Health and Environmental Health and the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources.Responds to broken and clogged sewer and drain lines, inspects grease traps, sewer lift pumps and their stations.Responds to operational emergencies affecting cafeteria services, broken water heaters, frozen pipes, broken water lines and gas leaks; evaluates situation and takes proper corrective action.Reviews blueprints, drawings and specifications for new construction and renovations to determine layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks, and waste and drainage systems and required tools and equipment.Measures, cuts, threads, assembles and installs pipe, tubing and gas line.Plans daily activities, completes paperwork, conducts truck inspection and stocks inventory; evaluates a weekly open work order backlog.Manages P-card budget, purchase order requests and payments, vehicle mileage records, supply requests and vehicle repair.Maintains and repairs gas lines downstream of meter.Maintains and repairs mixing valves and irrigation systems.Operates specialized machinery and tools utilized in repair and maintenance of all plumbing and plumbing systems.Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on plumbing systems and fixtures.Acts as team leader by training, coaching and counseling and scheduling hours of employees; provides input regarding performance evaluations and promotions.Performs related duties as assigned.Education and Experience:MinimumHigh school diploma or G.E.D with additional specialized/technical training or some college courses3 years commercial or 5 years residential related experience in the plumbing field or a combination of training and experienceDesirable5 years of related experienceLicensing / Certification Requirements: Valid Driver's License; Mecklenburg County Journeyman's Plumber Certificate or State of North Carolina Plumbing License or Plumbing Technical License; State of North Carolina Fire Sprinkler License M-1desirable; commercial driver's license desirable.Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:Knowledge of plumbing codes and regulations; City, County, State Federal and other codes, laws and ordinances pertinent to plumbing workKnowledge of pipefitting theory and techniquesKnowledge of the work order procedures, credit card procedures, International Standard Organization (ISO) procedures, and other departmental procedures developed and implemented.Knowledge of trade tools and of occupational hazards, safety precautions, local codes and regulations pertaining to the tradesAbility to use materials and tools found in plumbing construction, maintenance and repair of gas, water, sewer and irrigation systems including cafeteria equipment and appliances plumbed with water or gasAbility to read blueprints, drawings and specifications and determine processesStrong customer service orientationExcellent communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills# of Jobs 7.00 Salary: From 19.67 Salary: To 25.07 Teacher Scale N Minimum Educational Requirements HS diploma Term 12 Month Additional Job Information Physical Requirements: Skills requiring repetitive motor coordination with finger dexterity most (5 to 8 hours) of a normal work shift Required to exert physical effort part (up to 4 hours) of a normal work shift in handling objects over 30 pounds Continuously handle/work (5 to 8 hours) with biohazards or risks for potential job-related injury Exposure to blood borne pathogens, corrosive chemicals, high powered lasers, solid waste, caustic materials and sewer gases.
