Job Description Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Plumber is responsible for performing a variety of routine semi-skilled and skilled work related to plumbing maintenance, installation and equipment operation.

Job Description

Safety and Communication - 25%

* Facilitate effective communication; evaluate working conditions for safety improvements;

* Maintain constructive working relationships with peers, subordinates, superiors, administrative staff in the Buildings & Grounds Department and other county departments.

* Will be required to work in secure and non-secure areas.

General Job Duties - 75%

* Perform tasks including but not limited to the following: Assemble pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing and welding equipment

* Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.

* Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines.

* Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers and water heaters, and fixtures such as sinks and toilets, boilers and hydronic systems using hand and power tools.

* Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings, using hand and power tools.

* Hang steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.

* Repair and maintain plumbing, components, replacing or mending broken pipes, and opening clogged drain, pumps, grinders and water generators.

* Install underground storm, sanitary and water piping systems and extend piping to connect fixtures and plumbing to these systems.

* Erect and work off of scaffolding and ladders

* May be required to be on-call status during hours other than normal shift hours and perform related work as required.

* Will be required to assist with snow removal during winter storms.

* High School Diploma/GED

* 5 years Field experience and/or training

Skills and Abilities

* Ability to read and understand building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring. (High proficiency)

* Ability to review blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures. (High proficiency)

* Ability to select and proficiently use a variety of hand & power tools and equipment to complete a given assignment, to include: Tape measure, Multi tip screwdriver, Vise Grip pliers, Side cutters, Tubing cutter, Cold/wood chisels, 2ft. Level, Claw hammer, Hack saw, Various adjustable wrenches, Ball-peen hammer, Regular & stubby screwdrivers, Needle nose pliers, Allen keys imperial/metric, Socket set, Files, Crow bar, Pipe wrench, Shovels, Tin snips, etc. (High proficiency)

* Ability to safely operate a vehicle in routine conditions. (High proficiency)

* Thorough knowledge of all aspects of plumbing systems, construction practice and safety procedures (High proficiency)

* Working knowledge of all relevant national and local codes and company and industry standards. (High proficiency)

* Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but straight forward written and/or oral instructions. (High proficiency)

* Ability to respond to and solve problems involving several concrete variables in standard situations. (High proficiency)

* Ability to utilize reference skills to locate accurate information quickly with minimal resource. (High proficiency)

* Ability to function independently as well as in a team environment to complete all necessary duties (High proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

* Valid Colorado Drivers License Upon Hire Required

* Must pass and maintain the ability to pass a thorough background check at any time during employment with Weld County. Upon Hire Required

* Master Plumber License Upon Hire Required

This position is non-exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.
