Job Description:
Title: Plumber Salary: $23 to $31 an hourPosition Type: Full TimeJob ObjectiveAssembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings, fixtures and equipment of water, gas, drain-waste-vent (DWV), and storm systems according to specifications and plumbing codes. Must perform all functions and responsibilities in alignment with Tharp's quality standards and business ethics.Essential Functions and Tasks
  • Assemble pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking or soldering, brazing and welding equipment.
  • Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
  • Review blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
  • Study building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations and to plan installation obstructions such as electrical wiring.
  • Perform complex calculations and planning for special or very large jobs.
  • Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixture in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.
  • Measure, cut, thread and bend pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools and machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines and pipe-bending machines.
  • Install pipe assembles, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers, water heaters and fixtures such as sinks and toilets, using hand and power tools.
  • Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings, using hand and power tools.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing, replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes and opening clogged drains.
  • Direct workers and helpers engaged in pipe cutting and preassembly and installation of plumbing systems and components.
  • Install underground storm, DWV and water piping systems and extend piping to connect fixtures and plumbing to these systems.
  • Clear away debris in a renovation.
  • Occasionally safely operate company vehicles in strict compliance with the company's Fleet Safety Program practices and policies.

  • Controlling machines and processes: using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.
  • Performing for or working directly with customers and/or the public: performing in a collaborative and helpful manner for people associated with general contractors, other specialty contractors, vendors or code enforcement officials.
  • Making decisions and solving problems: analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Inspecting equipment, structures or material: inspecting equipment, structures or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Monitor processes, materials or surroundings: constantly review information from materials, events or the environment to detect or assess problems that may interfere with performance and productivity of work.
  • Strictly comply with attendance policy as stipulated in Employee Manual.

Knowledge, Experience and Education Requirements
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Thorough and current knowledge of state and local building codes.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of English language including the meaning and spelling of words and the rules of composition.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings and other structures such as highways, garages and toll plazas.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and their applications.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety practices and procedures in a dynamic construction environment and strategies to promote the safety, health and warfare of self and crew members.
  • High school graduate with post-secondary journeyman certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of e-mail communication and ability to utilize computer/smart phone applications.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record.
