This is a non-exempt position, which is a skilled worker that requires significant knowledge and skills related to his/her skilled field.
The employee in this classification is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures and accessories. The plumber organizes, inspects assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes. Performs preventative maintenance (PM) programs associated with the inspections and repairs. Responds to emergency plumbing calls for repairs and maintenance. Reports to Public Works Crafts Division Supervisor or designee.
Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.Coordinates, installs, repairs, and maintains pipes, fixtures including, but not limited to, faucets, lavatories, toilets, flush valves, sinks, water heaters, drinking fountains, garbage disposals and backflow devices.
Unclogs and repairs drainage systems and other plumbing used for water distribution and wastewater disposal in commercial and industrial City buildings and facilities.
Troubleshoot concerns without an obvious cause to identify root cause of the situation.
Assist other staff with piping and perform general repairs.
Reads and understands data, information, documents, and manufacturers' manuals blueprints.
Keep accurate records of time spent working, description of work performed and materials used.
Maintain tools and equipment in a professional manner to ensure that they are in good working order and ready to use when needed
Respond to emergency plumbing calls such as clogged drains, broken water lines, etc.
Performs related work as required and as directed.Considerable knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment and materials used in the particular field of specialized work.
Ability to adhere to tight schedules and still maintain work quality.
Ability to read plans and carry out the construction of said plans.
Ability to adhere to tight schedules and still maintain work quality.
Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors, other municipal employees and the general public.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school. Three (3) or more years of directly related plumbing experience.
Considerable experience in operation of electric sensors on faucets, flush valves and showers or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial B Driver's license.
Must possess a Broward County Journeyman Plumber License within 6 months of hire.The work is medium work which exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
