Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or a related science field. MT(ASCP) or CLS(NCA) or equivalent certification or registration. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work closely and effectively with other hospital departments and their respective leaders. Previous experience with maintaining and administering laboratory point-of-care testing programs. Minimum of five years experience as a Medical Technologist in a clinical setting. This individual maintains the equipment, Policy and Procedure Manuals, and all required documentation for Point of Care Testing required by regulatory agencies such as The Joint Commission (TJC). Duties will include the following:
Follow the testing personnel responsibility standard as defined in 493.1495 of CUA-88.Ensure hospital and Clinic Staff are familiar with the analytical procedures, maintenance and trouble-shooting of POCT equipment.Ensure that all hospital and clinic staff using POCT devices are adequately trained and competent, and to liaise with Education department to coordinate activities.Collaborates with other departments or hospital staff to develop methods and/or systems for improving quality and costs associated with POCT.Collects and evaluates QA/QI, Quality Control data from POCT sites and reports data collected to Assistant Director and Laboratory DirectorResolves technical problems and ensures that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratories established performance specificationsPerform and document all required quality control activities.Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.Document all corrective actions taken to correct problem(s).Perform and record all required instrument maintenance and calibration activities.Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.Follow the POCT established procedures whenever test systems are not within the POCT established acceptable levels of performance.Will help cover main laboratory as a technologist during emergencies or times of need.COORDINATOR DUTIES:Directs the performance of proficiency testing for POCT (enrollment, testing, documentation, reporting and designates procedures for screening and diagnostic use).Directs training, orientation and competency documentation for all staff involved with POCT.Minimum 3 years' experience in an approved laboratory.Specialty training or prior experience with POCT preferred.Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to successfully function in a fast paced, service-oriented environment.Experience in understanding and usage of computers as well as the ability to learn applications relevant to the position.Adhere to Community Health Systems policies and procedures.Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director or Laboratory Director.INDLABPHARM
