Openings
The Stephenville Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Cadet. Police Cadet applicants must be at least 20 years old AND be 21 before academy graduation. Police Cadets will be assigned to the Tarrant County College Northwest Law Enforcement Academy for a period of approximately 25 weeks. Police Cadets must meet all requirements for licensing and successfully complete the basic peace officer program. Upon successful graduation from the police academy the Police Cadet will become a licensed and sworn police officer. Completion of a City Application is required for all applicants. Once you have completed the application, it will be reviewed and you will receive an email with further instructions.
Phase 1:
* Apply On-Line: All applicants must complete the City of Stephenville job application first. CLICK HERE TO APPLY
* Pre-Screen: must be completed and is required for all applicants to continue in the hiring process.
* PERSONAL HISTORY STATEMENT: Once the City Application/Pre Screen is approved, the applicant will be forwarded the Personal History Statement and asked to complete it in 10 business days. Once you complete the Personal History Statement, you will need to return it to the Stephenville Police Department via mail or in-person to continue in the hiring process.
Failure to complete any of these forms (City Application/Pre-Screen and Personal History Statement) in the prescribed timeline will result in you being disqualified from the hiring process. After reviewing these documents, if you are chosen to move forward these will be the next steps in the process.
Phase 2:
* Background Investigation: The background Investigator will conduct and complete the background investigation. Successful completion of the background investigation will result in the applicant proceeding to the next step.
* Officer Ride-Along: Prospective officers, laterals or cadets, are highly encouraged to ride out with a patrol officer.
Phase 3:
* Peer Interview: The applicant will be scheduled to meet with the Peer Interview Board for an interview process. Successful completion of the Peer Interview will result in the applicant proceeding to the next step.
* Command Staff Interview: Applicant will be scheduled to meet with the command staff for a formal interview process. Successful completion of the Oral Interview will result in the candidate receiving a conditional job offer/or being placed on an eligibility list.
Phase 4:
* Conditional Job Offer: This is made to a candidate that has successfully completed the oral interview process to fill a police officer position. The conditional job offer is contingent upon the candidate successfully completing a:
* Polygraph
* Psychological Evaluation
* Medical Exam & Drug Screen
* Fingerprinting
* Physical Fitness Evaluation (Cadet only): The Stephenville Police Department & Tarrant County College Northwest Law Enforcement Academy are using standards similar to those adopted by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The Texas DPS Row Test Protocols uses the Concept 2 Rower. There is no minimum standard to achieve during this evaluation, it is used as a baseline for the academy. This assessment is used throughout the academy to measure a cadet's progress.
Getting Started:
* Licensed Police Officer/Lateral Transfer: The FTO Supervisor (Field Training Officer) will complete your FTO schedule and you will start the FTO process. Lateral officers go through a shortened FTO program. Successful completion of the FTO Program will result in you being released as a solo officer.
* Cadets: Our cadets are assigned to the Tarrant County College Northwest Law Enforcement Academy. This training lasts up to 25 weeks and academies start approximately every 3 months. Following the successful completion of the academy cadets become licensed peace officers and then begin field training which lasts between 18 and 20 weeks.
Eligibility List: This is a list that the Stephenville Police Department will retain for a period of 6 months to 1 year with the approval of the Chief of Police for candidates that have made it all the way through the oral interview process. Candidates on this list can be used to fill any officer vacancies within the department during the approved timeline.
