This role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience and training in various aspects of police work under the supervision of experienced officers. The Police Cadet assists with a variety of non-enforcement duties, participates in community engagement activities, and receives training in preparation for becoming a sworn police officer.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in a structured training program that includes physical fitness, defensive tactics, legal education, and police procedures.
  • Attend classes and training sessions as required by the police department.
  • Assist in community outreach and public relations activities.
  • Participate in community events, safety presentations, and other public engagement activities.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties such as filing reports, data entry, and answering phones.
  • Assist in maintaining records, logs, and files.
  • Provide support to sworn police officers by assisting with non-enforcement duties.
  • Help with traffic control, crowd management, and other duties as assigned during events and emergencies.
  • Observe and learn from experienced officers during ride-alongs and other field assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervising officers.
  • Adhere to department policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Accepted or enrolled in the Police Academy
  • Ability to pass and maintain physical agility standards as set by the department.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Previous experience in a similar role or in community service.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:Knowledge of:
  • Basic understanding of law enforcement principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with the community and local geography.
Ability to:
  • Follow directions and work effectively under supervision.
  • Remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job, including participating in physical fitness training.
  • Strong ethical standards and a commitment to public service.
Skills:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.

Work Environment:
  • 15% of work will be performed indoors at the office
  • 85% of work will be performed outdoors or in the field.
  • Subject to outside weather conditions
  • May occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, in high precarious places, and around potential explosive materials.
  • May occasionally be exposed to wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other extreme conditions.
