Under direct supervision, the Police Cadet serves as a trainee for eventual appointment to the position of Police Officer with the Aurora Police Department. Police Cadets must enroll and attend college full-time to attain an associate's degree in criminal justice or related field during their employment; Performs routine station assignments to obtain a working knowledge of police functions and relieve patrolmen from routine duties. Duties may include but are not limited to: Assisting with administrative tasks; Answering and directing phone calls and walk-in visitors; Performing routine record keeping duties; Assisting with police department tours; May be assigned to work with a patrolman in the field to learn various police functions; Participating in a wide variety of police training classes and field training exercises; Participating in ride-alongs; Assisting in traffic control and special City events; Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
* Must be 17 years of age but not yet attained 19 years of age at time of test.
* Must have attained senior class standing in high school on the date of test.
* Must have graduated from an accredited high school, attained a GED, or a Home School certification through the Regional Superintendent of Schools at time of hire.
* Must have a minimum high school grade point average of 2.50 on a scale of 4.0 or equivalent. (Copy of unofficial high school transcript is required at time of application. An official Transcript/GED/home school certification must be submitted in a sealed envelope from the school during the background check process).
* Must possess a valid State of Illinois Class D driver's license (Copy required to be uploaded at the time of application).
* Must be of good moral character and of the highest personal integrity.
* Must be able to pass vision requirement at time of hire.
* Must be in excellent physical condition; will be required to pass POWER test within the first 6 months of hire.
* Must be a United States citizen at time of hire.
* Must be able to successfully pass a job simulation exam, polygraph, psychological assessment, interview, background check, physical examination, and drug screen.
* Must be able to work up to 20 hours per week between 7 am - 3 pm, Monday - Friday; additional hours may be required for special events and emergency situations.
