The technician provides critical support by gathering, analyzing, and disseminating information to field officers and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate quick and informed decision-making. Job Duties Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Real-Time Monitoring:
- Continuously monitor multiple video surveillance feeds, to include the extensive City of Dubuque Public Safety camera network, automated license plate recognition (ALPR) systems, and other data sources for potential criminal activity.
- Identify and report suspicious activities, incidents, and trends to law enforcement officers in real time.
Data Analysis:- Analyze incoming data from various sources including surveillance cameras, 911 calls, sensors, and social media to identify patterns or potential threats.
- Use crime-mapping software and predictive analytics tools to forecast crime trends and suggest proactive measures.
Communication:- Relay real-time information and updates to field officers, dispatchers, and command staff during active incidents.
- Coordinate with other law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and stakeholders to ensure a unified response.
Incident Support:- Provide real-time support during critical incidents, including but not limited to robberies, shootings, and other emergencies.
- Assist in directing law enforcement resources by providing detailed information such as suspect descriptions, vehicle locations, and escape routes.
Documentation & Reporting:- Maintain detailed logs and records of incidents, including the actions taken and information provided.
- Prepare after-action reports and summaries to support investigations and operational reviews.
System Maintenance & Improvement:- Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting surveillance and analytical systems, ensuring all equipment is functioning correctly.
- Collaborate with IT personnel to improve system functionality and integrate new technologies.
Training & Development:- Participate in regular training sessions to stay updated on the latest technologies, methodologies, and legal standards related to real-time crime analysis.
- Mentor and train new staff on operational procedures and systems.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Previous experience in law enforcement, emergency services, or a security operations center is highly desirable.
- Experience with video surveillance systems, crime-mapping software, and data analytics tools is an advantage.
- Proficiency in using computer systems, including video monitoring software, databases, and other relevant technologies.
Education:- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
Other Requirements:- Must pass a thorough background check.
Working Conditions:
- This position operates in a secure, indoor environment within a real-time crime center. The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods while monitoring multiple screens and responding to high-stress situations.
- Willingness to work in a 24/7 environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Hours of work for this position will be evaluated based upon call for service volume. Primary times will consist of 10-hour workdays mostly afternoons until early morning hours. Since this a new position, the department reserves the right to change duty hours and days off with fair notice. Primary days off are Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
