Essential Duties
- Retrieves evidence placed in temporary secured storage, barcodes and scans each item, downloads into a data tracking system and places items in a secure location. Makes copies of each evidence sheet and files chronologically. Upon request by officers or detectives, logs out evidence for court by looking up the case in the tracking system, retrieving each item and scanning each item out. Obtains signature for receipt of property. Returned items are scanned back in, and secured back into evidence. Logs out evidence to various labs as requested by the case detective or officer. Scans out items, properly packaged according to USPS regulations for registered mail, and delivers to post office. Returned items are logged back into tracking system with required documentation.
- Reviews each case in attempt to obtain dispositions in order to move property out of evidence storage. Reviews and researches each case and each associated person for ownership and finality. Contacts owners via certified mail once disposition is located and property can be released. Initiates background checks on owners claiming firearms before releasing, determining if firearm may be released or placed on the destruct list. Places narcotics on destruct list once case is closed, forwards list to detectives for review and signature to ensure case has not been re-filed. Obtains signatures and forwards to City Attorney for submission to District Court in order to receive a court order. Lists unclaimed property on auction list, excluding firearms. Oversees the entire process of destruction which includes: Preparing reports for narcotic and firearm destructions, assisting with arrangements for time and location of disposal, ensuring security from transportation through destruction, and documenting witnesses of destruction.
- Makes copies of audiotapes and videotapes as requested by public defenders, agencies, courts and defense attorneys.
- Picks up pawn tickets from all of the local pawnshops and the buy back slips from local businesses. Sorts tickets according to type of property such as jewelry, tools, etc. Runs each item with a serial number in NCIC computer system and checks against the returns to ensure none are reported stolen. Forwards results to a detective to follow up on any stolen property listed.
Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required. Two years of increasingly responsible related experience preferred.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of Standard Microsoft Software.
- Basic knowledge of laws and criminal procedures.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of matters related to the department at all times.
- Ability to perform duties with a high degree of attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Police staff, Judicial staff, and general public.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid state issued driver's license.
- Ability to obtain NCIC Certification.

- The City of Hobbs will provide 80% to 90% Heath Insurance Coverage from Single to Family coverage.
- Employees are eligible for 100% short-term disability coverage provided by the City of Hobbs.
- Employer PERA contributions 14.8% for general, 28.775% for HPD, 30.9% for HFD.
- CDL pay - $6,000 per year (if applicable).
- PTO accruals start at 12 hours per month (144 hours per year) and progressively increase based on years of service to 20 hours per month (240 hours per year) at year 21.
- Bilingual Pay - $1,500 dollar incentive per year upon completion of yearly proficiency test.
- Education Incentive - ($1,000, $4,000, $6,000 dollars - Associates, Bachelor's, Masters; degree must be relevant to position and above the current minimum requirements of the held position).
- Longevity Pay - Begins at the completion of 10 years of service. Gradually increased.
- Retention Incentive - $600 incentive yearly with years 1-9 of completed service

- Bereavement Leave - 5 days per calendar year per personnel rules guidelines.
